EA Networks overcharge<br />
EA Networks overcharged its<br />
customers $52,905 inthe financial<br />
yeartoMarch 31, <strong>20</strong><strong>20</strong>and is<br />
implementing new checking<br />
mechanisms to make sure it<br />
doesn’t happen again.<br />
The overcharge equates to $1.<strong>20</strong><br />
for an average residential<br />

New citizens sworn<br />
in, but no handshakes<br />
There were no formal<br />
congratulatory hand shakes<br />
because of covid protocol,<br />
but newcitizenshavebeen<br />
warmly welcomedinto the<br />
district by <strong>Ashburton</strong>mayor<br />
Neil Brown.<br />
Nine newcitizens<br />
attended the ceremony and<br />
swore allegiancetoNew<br />
Zealand.<br />
They hail from the<br />
Philippines, England, Hong<br />
Kong and Argentina.<br />
Akapahaka group from<br />
HampsteadSchool<br />
performed arousing<br />
welcome at thestartofthe<br />
ceremony.<br />
MayorBrown told thenew<br />
citizensthat their journey to<br />
becomeNew Zealanders<br />
wasnow complete.<br />
He said culture and<br />
traditions of this country<br />
were woven into the fabric<br />
of NewZealanders and they,<br />
as new citizens, nowshared<br />
that common bond.<br />
He said the new citizens<br />
brought all of the history<br />
andtraditions of their<br />
homeland,which enriched<br />
this country.<br />
Afurther24migrants<br />
from the district have<br />
became New Zealanders<br />
during lockdownand since<br />
thelast formal ceremony<br />
here on February <strong>20</strong>.<br />
All new citizens have<br />
received certificates by post<br />
andwerenot required to<br />
attend the usual final step of<br />
theimmigration process<br />
because of the current<br />
Covid19 situation.<br />

week’s acknowledgement<br />
ceremonychose to do so.<br />

The72yearold is joining<br />
other bikersand former<br />
primary industry colleagues<br />
on the Tour to Mayo.<br />
The400km South Island<br />
route beginsinPicton and<br />
passesthrough Ward and<br />
Kaikoura, before heading<br />
inland to Hurunui.<br />
The expected 15 riders<br />
willbejoined by an<br />
extended peloton of 50 more<br />
bikers for the final leg from<br />
HurunuitoBurwood<br />
Hospital.<br />

Mr Howard saidthe tour<br />
was named after aformer<br />
Farmlands colleague Elton<br />
Mayo, who was akeen biker<br />

bad accident in early March<br />
which had left him<br />
paralysed.<br />

help support the superb<br />
team in Burwood’s spinal<br />
unit andthe helicopter<br />
service.<br />

his mountain bike and was<br />
lookingforward to trip.<br />
‘‘The furthest I’ve gone in<br />
aday is 70km and that will<br />
be the shortest day on this<br />
trip.<br />
‘‘It will be achallenge, but<br />
it’snot acompetitive ride.’’<br />
