GOLF<br />

<strong>Ashburton</strong> Golf Club 9-holers<br />

Last Thursday we played round five of the<br />

Marion Marshall Trophy, sponsored by Sega Golf.<br />

The winner was Chris Anderson (32) on countback<br />

from Antony White also on 32 followed by<br />

Peter Stechman (33) and Helen Argyle (34).<br />

Agroup of members played in the Aorangi<br />

Tournament on <strong>August</strong> 14 in Geraldine and came<br />

home with some impressive results. Men's nett<br />

trophy winner Murray Lister and women's nett<br />

trophy winner Chris Anderson were joined by<br />

Peter Woods, runner up men's nett and Tonee<br />

Hurley and Robynne Nicholl who won prizes for<br />

their nett scores.<br />

On Thursday <strong>August</strong> <strong>20</strong>, play will be sponsored<br />

by Netherby Pharmacy (best nett and best<br />

putting). On <strong>August</strong> 27 the first round of the Club<br />

9Hole Championships is taking place, while those<br />

of us not playing in the championships will play a<br />

stroke round sponsored by Accountantz.<br />

The bleachers at Basketball Mid Canterbury’s Oxford Street stadium were all but empty on<br />

Tuesday night, when <strong>Ashburton</strong> College sides hosted games in the Whelan and Thomson<br />

Trophy secondary school competition. The girls had agood 81­52 win over Avonside Girls<br />

while the boys lost 93­83 to St Thomas in aclose affair. Covid restrictions meant no<br />

spectators.<br />
