By redmeat, we mean beef, pork, lamb,reindeer and game. Eating less than500 grams a week (equivalent to 600-750 grams of raw meat) reduces therisk of colorectal cancer. This isparticularly true if we cut back onprocessed meat products. Processedmeat also contains lots of salt andsaturated fat, so cutting back on thesealso reduces the risk of cardiovasculardisease.Meat contains vital nutrients, butbeans, chickpeas, lentils, fish, eggsand poultry also provide lots of ironand protein, for instance.GREATEST ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTOf all foods, meat has the greatestimpact on our climate andenvironment. This is why it's importantfor us to cut back on meat and becareful about what meat we do chooseto eat. Poultry has the smallest impacton our climate, followed by pork. Beefand lamb have the greatest impact,but free range beef and lamb can alsohave positive effects. In Sweden, forexample, they help to produce a richagricultural landscape and ensure thatnatural pastures are kept open.
