ST. ROSE OF LIMA SCHOOL REOPENING PLAN
Dear St. Rose of Lima School Families,
“Recover, Rebuild, Renew”
St. Rose of Lima School reopening team has dedicated their time to develop a reopening
plan that will protect the health, safety, and welfare of our students, faculty, & staff while
continuing to provide a Catholic education that integrates faith and Christ-like living with
academic excellence. This plan reflects where we are today. We have studied the NYSED
and NYSDOH guidelines closely and developed what we feel are the best options for St. Rose
at this time. As you know, we are still navigating through new territory and things continue
to change and evolve. As these changes occur, we will make adjustments if and when necessary.
While this is not the “normal” we are used to, we are excited to welcome the children
back to school and the classrooms. The schools were asked to submit three plans to NYS.
The first plan involves in-person instruction, the second plan is a hybrid model, and the third
is total distance learning.
Plan #1
In-Person Instruction
At this time, we are operating as if we are opening full time, in person beginning Tuesday,
September 8th unless the governor says otherwise. Several renovations have taken place
that allow us to meet the NYS guidelines for social distancing, and therefore can meet for
in-person instruction for all students grades Pre-K through 6th. The following meet the
CDC and Department of Health (DOH) guidelines and are in place for a safe reopening for
students and staff:
Face Coverings:
◆ Acceptable face coverings must be worn by all staff, students (Pre-K - grade 6), and
visitors during arrival, dismissal, when in common areas of the school, and any time or
place that individuals cannot maintain appropriate social distancing.
◆ Students in grades 1-6 will wear acceptable face coverings at all times during the
day with the exception of eating lunch/snack. The students will be given mask breaks
throughout the day.

◆ Students in grades Pre-K & Kindergarten will wear acceptable face coverings any time or
place where individuals cannot maintain appropriate social distancing. Students in grades
Pre-K & Kindergarten will not be required to wear acceptable face coverings during
instruction & meals as long as appropriate social distancing is maintained.
◆ Appropriate face coverings include but are not limited to cloth-based face coverings (e.g.,
homemade sewn, quick cut, bandana), and surgical masks that cover both the mouth & nose.
◆ Written documentation from a licensed Health Care Provider must be provided if a student
is exempt from wearing a face covering when required.
◆ Signage will be placed throughout the school building to remind staff & students to wear
appropriate face coverings.
◆ Students will be required to provide their own personal face coverings. An extra supply of
masks will be available for students that need them.
Social Distancing:
◆ Individuals will maintain appropriate social distancing while in school facilities &
on schools grounds.
◆ Classrooms are set up with 6 feet between students.
◆ Specific toilets will be labeled & used in restrooms.
◆ Specific sinks will be labeled & used in restrooms.
◆ Signage will be placed throughout the building to remind staff and students to keep
6ft distance whenever possible.
◆ A distance of 12 feet in all directions will be maintained in physical education class as
well as activities that include singing and playing wind instruments.
◆ Recess areas are limited to one class at a time outside.
Space Configurations:
◆ Classrooms are set up to keep all students 6 ft apart. Construction was done on several
classrooms to double the size & allow for 6 ft social distancing between students.
◆ Student belongings will be kept 6 ft apart within their space/classroom. Where space in
the classroom is not available, a separate classroom for each cohort group will be utilized
for storage or where student belongings will be kept in plastic tubs with lids and distanced
from one another.
◆ Desks/tables will all be facing the same direction. Work stations will be cleaned between
uses when necessary & will not be shared.
◆ Classrooms will be set up using a cohort model & disinfection/cleaning of frequently
touched surfaces (railings, door knobs, sinks, light switches, sinks, etc.) will happen throughout
the day & disinfection & sanitation of each classroom/common area will be complete
each afternoon/evening after student dismissal.
◆ Signage with arrows will be placed on hallway floors throughout the school building to
show bi-directional foot traffic.
◆ No outside individuals, organizations or groups will be using the school building facilities.
◆ Hand sanitizer stations will be placed/mounted throughout the school building.
Drop Off & Pick Up:
◆ Staggered arrival and dismissal times will be implemented to facilitate proper social distancing.
◆ Drop off will be between 7:30 & 8:30 and dismissal will be between 2:00 & 3:00.
◆ Students Pre-K - 6th will utilize designated entry/exit doors for arrival & dismissal.
◆ Schedules for drop off and pick up will be emailed separately.

◆ Staff & students will have temperatures checked upon entry. Parents will pull up along the
curb at designated times and at their assigned spot. Children will exit the vehicle wearing an
appropriate face covering and have his/her temperature taken. Any child with a temperature of
100.4 or higher will not be permitted in the building and have to go home. Further details regarding
drop off and pick up will be emailed to parents.
◆ Parents are required to wear an appropriate face covering at drop off and pick up.
◆ Parents are permitted to exit their vehicle to help their child out of the car and then must
leave the drop off area to keep traffic moving smoothly. Any communications for the teacher or
office need to be sent directly to the classroom teachers via email or called into the main office.
Signage:
◆ Signage will be posted throughout the school building including entryways, hallways,
common areas, & classrooms for the following:
◇ Appropriate social distancing
◇ Symptoms of Covid-19
◇ Proper hand and respiratory hygiene
◇ Bi-directional foot traffic
Cafeteria:
◆ All lunches will be delivered to and consumed in classrooms.
◆ Bag lunches will be available for purchase. Hot meals will not be served.
◆ Sharing of food among students will not be permitted.
◆ Areas where food will be consumed will be cleaned before and after.
◆ Students will maintain appropriate social distancing in the classrooms during meal times.
Small Spaces:
◆ Signage will be posted in small space areas specifying the number of people allowed.
Ventilation:
◆ Classroom doors/windows will be kept open when feasible.
◆ Upgraded air filters have been purchased and installed in all A/C-heating units in
each classroom & office.
◆ Classroom ventilation units bring fresh air in from outside.
◆ Hepa filter will be added in the health office.
Common Areas:
◆ Congregating in common areas will be discouraged.
◆ Social distancing & face coverings must be worn in all common areas.
◆ Hand sanitizer stations will be placed/mounted in common areas and hallways.
◆ Restroom protocols will be communicated to staff & students from Pre-K-grade 6.
Cohorts:
◆ Students will be grouped in grade level cohorts. In grades where there are multiple sections,
the students will be assigned to a specific cohort/teacher.
◆ Students will remain in their assigned cohort the entire time they are in the school building.
◆ Students will not interact with other cohort groups.
◆ Special area teachers (art, library, music, & technology) will travel to the individual
classrooms for instruction.

In-Person Instruction:
◆ Our plan is to return full time, 5 days a week, full day, to in-person instruction for grades
Pre-K through 6th.
◆ Our classroom space and enrollment numbers allow us to remain open 5 days a week full day
for students to attend in-person while maintaining appropriate social distancing guidelines.
◆ Only necessary staff will be in the school building.
◆ Parents will not be permitted to enter the building. If they need to come pick up their child
early, they will call into the office, wait in the space outside the front door, and a staff member
will escort their child out to them.
Faculty & Staff:
◆ Faculty and staff will enter & exit through a designated single entry door.
◆ Faculty and staff will have their temperature taken upon entering the building.
◆ Faculty and staff will be Covid-19 tested regularly.
Shared Objects:
◆ Students will bring in their own school supplies to be kept in their personal bin.
◆ Shared objects will be discouraged.
◆ Objects that need to be shared will be cleaned/sanitized between uses.
◆ High touch surfaces will be cleaned/sanitized throughout the day.
◆ Students & staff will use hand sanitizer on the way in & out of classrooms.
Sports & Extracurricular Activities:
◆ There will be no sports or extracurricular activities.
Hygiene, Cleaning & Disinfection:
◆ Cleaning logs will be posted and maintained daily.
◆ Students & staff will be trained in proper hand and respiratory hygiene.
◆ Parents will be asked to remind students of proper hand & respiratory hygiene at home.
◆ Hand soap will be in all restrooms.
◆ Hand sanitizer will be available in all classrooms & staff offices.
◆ Hands free sanitizing stations will be placed/mounted throughout the school in hallways
and common areas.
◆ Hand sanitizer will meet the CDC guidelines & checked by our health professional on staff as
well as maintenance supervisor.
◆ Waste receptacles will be available throughout the school in classrooms, restrooms, & offices.
◆ Classrooms & staff offices will be provided with necessary cleaning supplies to be used
throughout the day.
◆ Drinking fountains will not be available. Students will bring their own water bottles.
◆ Regular cleaning and disinfecting will take place by our maintenance staff each evening after
staff & students leave for the day. The school has purchased a Victory Electrostatic Backpack
Sprayer & sanitizing product that is used after cleaning has taken place throughout the school.
◆ Cleaning of high touch surfaces & areas where students eat will be conducted in classrooms
& offices throughout the day.
◆ All cleaning/sanitizing products will meet DOH safety guidelines.
◆ Restrooms will be cleaned frequently throughout the day.
◆ Signage will be posted in restrooms to ensure social distancing is being adhered to.

◆ Specific sinks will be closed off to ensure social distancing in the restrooms.
◆ Specific toilets will be closed off to ensure social distancing in the restrooms.
Cleaning & Disinfection Following Suspected or Confirmed Covid-19 Case:
◆ If there is a reported positive case of covid-19 involving a staff member, student, or visitor, the
school will follow protocols in the CDC guidelines for “Cleaning and Disinfecting Your Facility.”
◆ The cohort in which the individual belongs will be closed until all cleaning and sanitizing
according to CDC guidelines can be complete.
◆ If multiple cohorts are exposed, it may be necessary to close the school for a length of time.
If that is an extended period of time, distance learning will take over until it is safe to return to
the school in-person.
Coordination of Reopening:
◆ The safety coordinator will be the building principal.
◆The building principal will work in conjunction with the maintenance supervisor & staff, as
well as the pastor regarding the reopening plan in the event of a covid closure.
Communication Plan:
◆ School safety coordinator has reviewed and understands the State-issued industry guidelines
“Interim Guidance for In-Person Instruction at Pre-K to Grade 12 Schools During the
COVID-19 Public Health Emergency” as well as “Recovering, Rebuilding, and Renewing: The
Spirit of New York’s Schools” Health & Safety.
◆ School safety coordinator completed the Business Affirmation for reopening.
◆ Plans for reopening will be shared with stakeholders via email and will be posted on the
school website.
◆ Parents will be contacted weekly via email blast with any pertinent instructions, training,
and updated information.
◆ Parents will be contacted weekly via email blast a reminder of signs and symptoms to look
for in their child that require them to stay home from school including signs and symptoms
of COVID 19 and/or a temperature of greater than 100 degrees.
◆ Parents will be sent a health screening questionnaire weekly asking the following questions:
▲ Have you or anyone in your household been in close or proximate contact in the
past 14 days with anyone who has tested positive through a diagnostic test for
COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
▲ Have you or anyone in your household tested positive through a diagnostic test for
COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
▲ Has your child or anyone in your household experienced any symptoms of
COVID-19, including a temperature of greater than 100 degrees in the past 14 days?
▲ Have you or anyone in your household traveled internationally or to a restricted
state in the last 14 days?
◆ Parents will be asked to take their child’s temperature each morning prior to coming to
school and keep a log. Daily temperature checks will take place when students arrive at
school before they enter the building.
◆ Nursing staff will go to each classroom and train all students how to follow COVID-19 safety
protocols correctly including but not limited to hand hygiene, proper face covering wearing,
social distancing, and respiratory hygiene.
◆ Staff and students will be reminded regularly verbally and through signage of the

CDC and DOH regulations for face coverings and social distancing.
◆ School safety coordinators will monitor local health department updates and communicate
to staff, students, and parents.
Positive Screen Protocol:
◆ Students who present positive for COVID-19 symptoms at drop off during daily screening,
he/she will be sent home immediately. Building administrator will be notified immediately.
◆ Students who arrive via bus and present positive for COVID-19 symptoms upon arrival
will be isolated immediately until such time that a parent/guardian can pick them up.
Building administrator will be notified immediately.
◆ The school safety coordinator will notify the local health department immediately if a
student tests positive for COVID-19.
◆ When a student or staff member has a confirmed case it will:
▶ Communicate with the local health department.
▶ Communicate with other staff members as is necessary and appropriate.
▶ Identify students, staff, and visitors who may have had close contact with the
individual during the 14 days prior to the positive test to initiate contact tracing.
▶ Follow contact tracing guidelines.
◆ CDC guidance will be followed when allowing a student or staff member who exhibited
COVID-19 symptoms to return to school/work:
▶ Is not diagnosed with COVID-19 by a licensed healthcare provider.
▶ Fever free without using fever reducing medication for 24 hours.
▶ Provide a written doctor’s note when diagnosed with another condition.
◆ CDC guidance will be followed when allowing a student or staff member who has either
been diagnosed positive for COVID-19 by a healthcare professional based on a test or they
do not get a COVID-19 test but have COVID-19 symptoms to return to school/work:
▶ If an individual tests positive regardless of whether they are symptomatic or
asymptomatic, they may return upon completing at least 10 days of isolation from
the onset of symptoms or 10 days of isolation after the first positive test if they remain
symptom free and test negative for COVID-19
▶ If an individual has had close or proximate contact with a person with COVID-19 for
a prolonged period of time AND is experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms, they
may return after completing at least 10 days of isolation from the onset of symptoms
and test negative for COVID-19. (The NYS DOH considers a close contact to be
someone who was within 6ft of an infected person for at least 10 minutes starting
from 48 hours before illness onset until the time the person was isolated.)
▶ If an individual has had close or proximate contact with a person with COVID-19
for a prolonged period of time AND is NOT experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms,
they may return after 14 days of self-quarantine.
▶ If the individual receives a positive COVID-19 test, they need to receive a negative
COVID-19 test result.
In-Person Screening:
◆ All staff performing in-person screening activities will be required to wear the necessary
PPE to be appropriately protected from exposure to potentially infectious individuals
entering the school.

◆ Appropriate PPE will be available to all staff members.
◆ Appropriate PPE includes at a minimum, an acceptable face covering and gloves.
School Health Office:
◆ A separate space will be designated to isolate any student that exhibits COVID-19 symptoms
until a parent/guardian can be contacted to come pick them up.
◆ Students in isolation will remain supervised at all times.
◆ Health office staff will be required to use appropriate PPE when caring for students
presenting signs of illness.
◆ Isolation area will be disinfected and sanitized after a student showing signs of COVID-19 has
left the room and school.
◆ Health office will be disinfected and sanitized after each student is seen for non COVID-19
related illnesses.
◆ Health office will be disinfected and sanitized using CDC approved cleaning products including
the Victory sanitizing machine & Navigator-dilution control system each evening after
staff and students have left the building.
◆ Nursing staff will communicate directly with parents and health care providers when appropriate
where asthma medication and/or asthma medication delivery systems are warranted.
Tracing and Tracking:
◆ If a student or staff member in a cohort tests positive for COVID-19 the local health department
will be contacted.
◆ The cohort will be closed and no students or staff included in that cohort as well as any support
staff that had direct contact with the cohort will return until appropriate disinfecting and
sanitizing in accordance with the CDC and DOH guidelines has taken place and individuals
have self-quarantined for 14 days and remain symptom free.
◆ If multiple exposures are suspected, the school will shut down for disinfection and sanitizing
and those in direct contact with the positive individual will need to self quarantine for 14 days.
◆ If we are informed of any positive COVID-19 diagnosis by an individual in school facilities
or on school grounds including students, staff, and visitors, we will notify the state and local
health departments immediately.
◆ Parents will be notified immediately via email blast, text message, and phone call of any positive
COVID-19 cases reported of an individual in the school as well as protocol to be followed.
Quarantine, Isolation & Return to School:
◆ School safety coordinators will report to the local health department immediately when
notified that an individual has tested positive for COVID-19.
◆ School safety coordinators will report to the parents via email blast, text message, and
phone call when notified that an individual in the school has tested positive for COVID-19.
◆ School safety coordinator will contact the local health department when notified an individual
in the school has come into close or proximate contact with a person who has tested
positive for COVID-19.
◆ School principal and nursing staff will refer to DOH’s “Interim Guidance for Public and Private
Employees Returning to Work Following COVID-19 Infection or Exposure” regarding
protocols and policies for faculty and staff seeking to return to work after a suspected or confirmed
case of COVID-19 or after the faculty or staff member had close or proximate contact
with a person with COVID-19.

Distance Learning Option:
◆ There is a distance learning option available for students unable to attend in person. If this
option is chosen, students will be required to remain in distance learning for an entire quarter.
If a parent would like their student to return to the classroom for in-person instruction it
can only be at the beginning of a new quarter. Parents and students will be required to sign a
contract outlining the responsibilities and requirements of participating in distance learning.
Tuition costs remain the same for distance learning.
Before/After Care:
◆ Before care will not be available at this time.
◆ After care will be available. Number of students will be limited due to COVID-19 guidelines.
More information will be provided in a separate document.

Plan #2
Hybrid Model

If St. Rose is required to follow a hybrid instruction model, all of the guidelines stated above
for the in-person plan will remain the same in the hybrid plan. The hybrid model contains
the following:
◆ Students will attend Monday-Thursday for in-person instruction.
◆ Drop off and pick up will remain staggered. Drop off will remain between 7:30-8:30am.
◆ The length of the school day will be extended. Pre-K will end at 3:30 & K-6 will end at 4:00.
Due to the extended time of the school days Monday-Thursday, Friday’s will not be an instructional
day. This day will be used to catch up on classwork or homework if necessary. This will
also be a day for teachers to meet virtually one on one or in small groups with students who
may need academic support.
◆ Before care will not be available at this time.
◆ After care will be the same as in Plan #1 except closed on Fridays.
Plan #3
Distance Learning
◆ Students will participate in virtual instruction Monday through Friday.
◆ The daily schedule will be set up the same as in the classroom.
◆ Instruction will include but will not be limited to recorded videos, google meets, email,
educational websites, subject materials from the classroom, and google classroom.
◆ All students Pre-K through grade 6 will be using google classroom.
◆ Parents and students will be required to sign a contract outlining the responsibilities
and requirements of participating in distance learning. Tuition costs remain the same
for distance learning.
◆ Attendance and participation are required.
◆ Students will receive progress reports quarterly. Grading rubrics will be provided to parents
and students.
◆ Students will be able to sign out a chrome book or iPad to use at home if needed. Students
will be responsible for following online safety protocol as well as taking care of & maintaining
the device while in their care.
