bin collections

collections for garden waste
have finished for the year.
Cllr Mick McCarthy,
Barking and Dagenham
Council’s cabinet member
for environment, said: “As
the winter comes on, fewer
people use the green bins. It
isn’t economical to continue
the rounds, so we suspend
them until the spring.”
They will start again
in March, but you can
book a spot in two special
collections before then –
one in January and another
in February. Dates will be
announced nearer the time.
“In the meantime, if
you have garden cuttings
you need to dispose of,
Frizlands Reuse and
Recycling Centre is open
all year,” Cllr McCarthy
added. “You can visit www.
recycleforyourcommunity.
com for other ideas on
using green waste.”
Hospice quiz night
IF you fancy giving your grey
cells a workout, and helping
a local hospice too, next
Friday is your night.
The Mayor of Barking
and Dagenham, Cllr Tony
Ramsay, is hosting a quiz
to raise cash for St Francis
Hospice, which serves the
borough. You’ll need a team
of eight to take part, and
tickets are £5 a head.
The event takes place
at Dagenham & Redbridge
Football Club, in Victoria
Road, Dagenham, on
2 November. There is a
licensed bar, and you’re
welcome to bring nibbles.

Woman wrongly
claimed benefit
A WoMAN must complete 120 hours
of unpaid work because she was
caught wrongly claiming benefits after
starting a job.

Sherri-Leigh Dyer was living in Baron
Road, Dagenham, when she started
work as an accounts assistant.
She stopped claiming Jobseeker’s
Allowance but continued to claim
Housing and Council Tax Benefit.

A routine check revealed the payments
and Dyer was invited to pay an
administrative penalty rather than go
to court.
But she did not go to any of the
appointments about the settlement and
legal action began.

A LoCAL photography student is
getting international exposure as
his work goes on show in italy.
Daniele Pinotore, 31, is in his
final year of a photography
course at Barking & Dagenham
College.
Artists
This month, Daniele’s pictures
are on show along with nine
other artists’ at the Tianshu
exhibition in genoa.
it ends with an auction of the
displayed work. All the money
raised will go to eco-friendly
schools and organisations.
David Bennett, the
photography and animation team
leader at the college, said:
“Daniele is a bright, creative,
intelligent student with a love of
documentary photography. He’s a
pleasure to teach. i’m sure that
he’ll be a great success.”
