Holland Art Cities
A new cultural extravaganza in
the Netherlands claims to be
showcasing “more art and culture
per square mile than any
other country on earth.“ The
organizers of Holland Art Cities
are hoping to attract hordes
of visitors from all over the
world to the 20 exhibitions on
display at ten museums in Amsterdam,
Rotterdam,The Hague
and Utrecht. The festival, which
continues into 2010, is taking
on three main themes:“International
Influences”, “Modern
and Contemporary Art and
Design” and “Dutch Masters”.

As much Handel
as you can handle
This year marks the 250th anniversary
of the death of George Frideric
Handel, and the city of Halle is celebrating
its most famous son with a year of
concerts and cultural events. The high
point on the city’s 2009 calendar is the
Handel Festival in June. The festival’s
patron is none other than Her Majesty
Queen Elizabeth II. The British are
particularly big fans of the Baroque
composer – after all, he spent a large
part of his life in London. Guests this year
will be treated to a feast of Handel’s operas, including
Floridante, Rodelinda, Alcina, Serse,
Ariodante and Belshazzar.
Around the world in 30 millennia
