Who will win the SAECULUM?
The internationally distinguished cellist
Jan Vogler (photo) chose the New
World as the theme for his debut as
artistic director of the Dresden Music
Festival. The programme’s highlights
include concerts by the Vienna Philharmonic
Orchestra conducted by
Valery Gergiev, the Royal Concertgebouw
Orchestra under conductor
Gustavo Dudamel and the Sächsische
Staatskapelle Dresden conducted by Reinhard Goebel.
Audiences can also look forward to the award ceremony of
the SAECULUM-Glashütte Original-Musikfestspielpreis,
which will include a performance by the Royal Concertgebouw
Orchestra.The Semper Opera House will again serve
as the magnificent setting for the ceremony. The prestigious
prize awarded by Glashütte Original will be presented to
a public figure who has shown special commitment to fostering
talented young musicians and has given fresh impetus
to the music world.

Dance responsibly!
International dance performances, concerts ranging from classical
and jazz to pop, staged readings, discussions and workshops
– from 14 April to 31 May 2009 distinguished artists and ensembles
from all over the world will gather in Wolfsburg for the
Movimentos Festival.The central theme of this year’s festival is
“responsibility” – in other words, acting prudently for the benefit
of as many people as possible and assessing the consequences
of one’s actions in advance.Those invited to participate in the
festival include the Companhia de Dança Deborah Colker from
Brazil, the Australian Bangarra Dance Theatre, well-known actors
such as Corinna Harfouch, Sophie Rois and Thomas Thieme,
jazz greats Maceo Parker and Klaus Doldinger, and Italian author
Donna Leon. In cooperation with TV channels ZDF and Arte,
the City of Wolfsburg will be awarding the International Movimentos
Dance Prize in five categories on 12 May in what will
be one of the festival’s highlights. The award ceremony will be
broadcast on Arte at 10:30 p.m. on 14 May.
