In this period of exponential growth and progression, Speckle Park breeders have high aspirations for the future.
The Speckle Park Journal spoke with several to hear their vision for the next ten years
QUESTION ONE
What priorities will your operation
be focused on for the next decade?
QUESTION TWO
Where do you see the Speckle Park
breed in ten years?
on the table in order to put the breed in the
mainstream of cattle production. If the breed
continues to focus on expanding the numbers
and genetics, all the while maintaining the
integrity of the important attributes and
qualities of the breed, it will continue to catch
the attention of cattle producers – young
or old, new or established, and big or small
operations – in ten years, making Speckle
Park a household name in the cattle industry.

REPLY TO QUESTION ONE // Being a relatively
new breeder of registered, purebred Speckle
Park cattle (2017), our goal is to build a herd
of females and bulls that is consistent in
type and functionality, but with diversity in
genetics. We want show high-calibre Speckle
Park cattle that are also topping the market
in carcass results. Our goal is to have Desert
Acres-bred cattle showing at Canadian
Western Agribition and standing toe-to-toe
with some of the best, and to sell our genetics
to customers around the world. Some would
say that is a big vision to accomplish in ten
years, but I love big dreams and aspirations,
along with the journey to achieving them! I
was told by my parents from a very young
age, “No matter what you do in life, do it to
the best of your ability!”
REPLY TO QUESTION TWO // We see the
Speckle Park breed becoming synonymous
with the highest-quality meat on the market.
Speckle park cattle will no longer be looked at
as the “new breed” or a “fad,” but as a top-ofthe-line
beef supplier for high-end restaurants
and steakhouses. The breed needs to move
forward to getting more Speckle Park meat

REPLY TO QUESTION ONE // To those
watching from the outside, the evolution
of Speckle Park must be something to behold.
In a matter of a few short years the
breed has transformed from a handful of
pretty, spotted cows – a novelty, really –
to mainstream acceptance, to new breed
dominance, world wide, with unparalleled
growth numbers. The INC program is committed
to this continued development.
Our program will focus on milk production
and udder improvement, feet and frame
score, as well as increasing testicular size
and consistency. Our marketing strategy will
remain fixed on
