The craft centre named ‘Shambhala’ is a re-purposed building. The original function of the
building is that of a bank. The client wished to tranform the space such that it could add
to the cultural value of the area around it. Craftsmen would set up stalls to display and sell
their products on the ground floor while the upper floor would be used as a cafe and pantry
space for the visitors. Though the building itself was a retained structure, the in-situ casted
terrazzo floor, furniture as well as the lighting have been carefully sourced and articulated to
create the warmth and charm that would accompany the art pieces being sold.
