The feature of Ngaruawahia-Affco' s 3rd

divi si on Wa i ka t o m a t ch a ga i n st Waikeria

on Sunday was the first ever appearance of a

father and son in the same team, with sixteen

year old Geoff Gray playing right-half in

front of his father, player/coach Glen Gray.

Glen, who gives his age as “approaching

21 for the second time”, is living proof of the

maxim that soccer pl a yer s n ever gr ow ol d,

t h e y j u s t g r o w m o r e cunning.

By half-time, Ngaruawahia had

e s t a b l i s h e d a comfortable 5-0 lead and it

beca m e only a matt er of how many they

could add in the second half.

Although Waikeria managed t o scor e on ce,

Ngaruawahia dictated most of the play

adding a further 10 goa l s t o m a ke t h e fi n a l

score Ngaruawahia 15, Waikeria 1.

Ma i n goa l sc or er s for Ngaruawahia

were; Steve Buchanan (5), Staff McGee (4)

and Trevor McLauchlin (2), with goals also

from Ricki Duffel, Rodney Hill and Glen

Gray.
