introducing himself to John with the seven deadliest words in the

English language - "Good morning. I am your new

neighbour."

He turned up for training at the AFFCo ground

with Billy McCaig's 3rd Division side but was quickly spotted by

Dave Hall and moved into the Northern League side.

John has always tried to emulate his idol, Sir Stanley

Matthews, the wizard of the dribble, but so far has only

managed to get his shirt-front wet!

JASON CARGO

Jeff was a fitness freak gaining his running style from

the Roadrunner cartoon characters.

He can to N arra when the Club amalgamated

with AFFCo. After one year he moved back to Claudelands

w h e r e h e p r o m p t l y b r o k e h i s collarbone and had to sit

the season out. He still topscored with one goal!

Back with the Green Machine the following year Jeff

played in every position conceivable, plus a few we never heard

of. He has coached the Ladies team, the Waikato Women, has

been Club Captain and Club President.

A brief fluffy with a hairdresser brought him offs

from the Robinson Jam Company to feature his as the golliwog on

their jar labels.

A powerhouse player with a strong shot, he just

revelled in the chances to go twin striker with Mike Heappey so

they could compete in seeing who could knock the most pine

cones off the trees behind the goal.

STEVE WILLIAMS

Alias Power Pole and (how original) Clutch.

Jason played football for Otorohanga College, then

Ngaruawahia High then Fairfield College (not all at the same

time). He then spent five seasons with Narra in the

Northern league, spending one of the matches in

position as a replacement upright when a goalpost broke.

He balanced his soccer with squash, tennis and table

tennis and was a very unflappable opponent, except when

beaten by his father Malcolm at Table tennis (or when

someone eats his jandals).

His boyhood idols were Stephen (his brother) and

Donald Duck. As a Surveyor he was invaluable to his firm

as they used him as the sighting pole when working in deep

valleys.

He was always accompanied by his best friend

Paddlefoot, a cat of no resemblance.

JEFF TOZER

D r o o p y D r a w e r s w a s b o r n i n Liverpool and

played as a defender, having proved a disaster at any other

position in the team. His fullback role was one in which

goalkeeper Sean Crowe would have given his right arm to

have Steve removed from!

His rise to infamy began in the club's Waikato 2nd

Division side with a brief stopover in the Reserves before

notching a place in the Northern League team. His brief

stay in the reserved caused a sudden rash of ulcers by

Sandy MacDonald in goal and Steve was forced to move on!

He was a powerful defender and exceptionally strong

in the air (often cured by air freshener) and followed in the

footsteps of Yogi Bear (having the figure to match).

Steve loves his football and each year was the top

scorer for the opposition.

It has only lately been revealed that Steve's transfer fee

from the English Football Association was two stale pies.

Initially he turned down the offer but, when Maxine was

thrown in for free, Steve conditionally accepted - Maxine

had to leave her voice behind!

The human bulldozer, nicknamed Rooter when 12

years old.

Played for Claudlands Rovers at 15 f or two seasons

and stated f or AFFCo Rangers way back when they were boy

scouts. Rangers won the first Cambridge Tournament in 1971

a n d w e r e s c o r n f u l l y c a l l e d 'Dreamers'.
