Narra’s Original Dad’s Army

Rear: Richard Saville (Whakatane), Steve Buchanan (Taupiri), Ronnie Clark (Huntly), Ricky Duffull, Jim McCaig, Jeff McLaughlan (Tauranga)

On Sunday 16th July a reunion of the original Dad’s Army

team of 1977 was held at the clubrooms.

A great time was had by all as the stories unfolded. Copies

of the 1968-1993 club history books were eagerly snapped up and

carefully scanned for the looks of yesteryear as the team had not

been together for more than 25 years!

Thanks to Sandy and Johnny for taking photos on the day,

to Eugene and James for running the barbeque and to Ryan for

attending to the bar.

“Half this game is 90 percent mental.” Gordon Glen Watson.

"The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was

'committed'." - Gordon Glen Watson before the Wanderers Chatham Cup game.

"If you are going through hell, keep going." - Mark Phillips to his fellow defenders during a break in play.

"I did not fail. I'd just found another defensive move that didn’t work." - Jonathan Keenan after letting in that soft Rovers goal.

"We didn't lose the game; we just ran out of time." - Claudlands’ Coach after losing 6-1.

"If you haven't got anything nice to say about anybody, come sit next to me." - Maxine Williams.

"If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?" - The referee talking to the Rovers Captain during Gavin’s booking in the first half

last Saturday.

"There are some experiences in life which should not be demanded twice from any man, and one of them is playing Ngaruawahia

United." - Claudelands’ substitute goalkeeper.
