Two more points for Ngaruawahia-Affco

Huntly Press, Wednesday 23rd April 1980

Ngaruawahia-Affco United

Northern League soccer team picked

up two more valuable competition

points at home with a 3-2 win

over Tokoroa The score-line

sounded closer than the game was.

Tokoroa's two goals came in

each half from free kicks. In the first

Jeff Tozer was caught shepherding

and the indirect kick roared in off the

underside of the bar. The second of

Tokoroa's goa l s ca m e wh en

Al an Dor nan wa s penalised for

holding in the penalty area and the

spot kick went in under Gary

Dillistone's diving form.

Ngaruawahia made harder

work than expected of their win and

had the greater territorial

possession. It took ten minutes for

Mike Heappey to blast the first i n

foll owi n g a sn a pp y side-foot

through ball from Nelson

Grandona. The second goal for

t h e h o m e t e a m w a s a simple

side-foot - pass across g oa l a n d

Jimmy Re ye s couldn't miss. 2-1.

A Grandona corner in

the second half connected with

Chris Barakat's head and the

score went to 3-1. Later Tokoroa's

penalty brought the score back to

3.2.

T h e T ok or oa k e e p e r

saved many shots under

pressure, especially in the air, and

much of the credit for the close

scoreline must go to him. Jimmy

Reyes chased al l da y an d wa s

rewarded with his goal.

Five points from three

games (drawing with Cambridge)

is a good start for the season.

Other games:

Ricky Duffull and Malcolm

Sowerby (penalty) featured in the

First Divisions 2-2 draw with

Morrinsville, having, on the way,

missed four open goals.

Phillip Bullivant replied

twice to Mark Snowden's early

goal in Ngaruawahia's 2 - 1 wi n

o ver T a u pir i Tornadoes. In the

match two bookings were noted,

one from each side. Ben Henkel

found his name in the referee's

notebook after being on the receiving

end of a dangerous tackle, much to

the puzzlement of all.

Five goals to none was the

luck of the High School Third

Division team over Huntly, while

the Fourth Divisi on boys were in

un dated 11-0 by Boys Hi gh .

Junior results were: 9A lost

0-15; 11A lost 0-4; 11B won 6-0; 13A

lost 0-1; 13B won 3-0.
