Somerset County Cricket Players Get Behind The Cheeselympics at Quantock View Former England star and Somerset County Cricket Club captain Marcus Trescothick and batsman James Hildreth have lent their support to this summer’s inaugural cheeselympics by explaining the games in a series of hilarious YouTube clips. The Cheeselympics will form part of Somerset’s first ever Cider and Cheese Festival on Saturday 16th June at Quantock View, Nether Stowey, near Bridgwater. The event is being promoted by former Somerset cricketer and local Businessman, John Francis. John, along with Nadine Isaac, set up Quantock View 3 years ago as a wedding and events venue. Quantock View consists of a converted 18 th Century Barn, marquee lawn and twin lakes, with the Quantock hills surrounding. John explains: “Quantock View is a true Somerset rustic venue with fantastic views of the surrounding countryside, a magical feel to the place with the ability to hold both small and large numbers for any kind of event.” (From Left to right) John Francis, James Hildreth, Marcus Trescothick and then on right is Richard Villis (Cricketer Farm) Quantock View’s Event Director and co-owner, Nadine Isaac, previously worked for Peter de Savry in Grenada as a Project and Events manager, before leaving for London where she helped organise the London Fashion Week and International Motor Show. This was before she had reached 24 years old! “We’ve wanted to create a cider and cheese festival for some years and now it’s finally going to happen. The thought of listening to good music, having lovely local food while sipping cider next to our stunning lakes gets me excited. With John’s sporting background and the Olympics this year we thought we would put our own West Country twist on the Games,” added Nadine. Hugh has a wealth of experience in sales including previously working for house hold names such as Hugh Graham Coca-Cola Enterprise, Littlewoods Lotteries and SC Johnson. Hugh is also the director of Somerset Based company, The Bid Coach which specialised in coaching companies to get winning results. On accepting his new role Hugh said; I look forward to getting to grips with this exciting new role and becoming a familiar face among the Somerset business community. Chamber Projects Into Somerset So Well Connected The team managing the new Somerset marketing campaign So Well Connected has been extremely active in the last month placing advertisements, press releases and outdoor posters around the country to draw attention to Somerset as a great place to live and work. The So Well Connected campaign strapline highlights the top class connections that Somerset has for new, expanding and relocating businesses, including great transport infrastructure, friendly and dynamic business networks, growing connectivity to superfast broadband with projects underway to secure this for 2015, and of course an enviable quality of life. “The marketing campaign developed by Impact Design and Marketing, has taken major strides forward” says Rupert Cox. “We have signed-up new ambassadors for the campaign including Haynes Publishing, Charles Hazlewood, Clarks Shoes and Sassi Holford and have secured some great outdoor sites for promotion at Fleet services westbound and closer to home at Gordano services. These slots will be repeated later in the year and supported with in-train advertising on Thames Valley trains and further concourse posters. Our PR agency ADPR are supporting this activity with some great coverage in print and online” In addition to the So Well Connected campaign, the Into Somerset team has been working with Mendip Media on a new Into Somerset promotional video. The video will have its launch at the Somerset in Business conference in May. It will showcase Somerset’s innovative and entrepreneurial flair, with footage from some of the high-tech industries that are operating very successfully from the county. Mulberry will be featured as a new ambassador for Somerset’s creative industries and a new video case study for Mulberry will be available on the Into Somerset website in early May. “The So Well Connected campaign is the focus of the marketing activity for the project, but an enquiry doesn’t automatically lead to an investment.“ says Rupert. “We work hand in hand with potential investors to highlight opportunities and assist with issues as they arise. Our relationships with both the public and private sector are a key strength for us – putting into practice the so well connected marketing message. With reduced budgets, we still have a challenging few years ahead to deliver inward investment to the county, but we have made a great start with the campaign.” Since May 2011 Into Somerset has welcomed 14 new investors to the county creating 49 jobs, once all Investments are complete. Over the lifetime of the project, we estimate it will have benefitted the Somerset economy by approx. £20m in job creation.
