6 Business News Chance for food based business to win up to the value of £30,000 investment The Honor Chapman Mentoring Award was launched in November 2011 in memory of her inspirational work and love farming, food and the countryside which she demonstrated as Chair of the Somerset Food Links Board until her untimely death. Somerset Food Links supported the growth of the local food sector across Somerset for a decade before in closed in 2009. Their residual funds have been donated to The Ducky Foundation in order to support a one off Honor Chapman Mentoring Award to a Somerset candidate who has managed their food and/or farming business for no more than five years nor should the turnover exceed £150,000. The Ducky Foundation will manage the Awards and, unlike any other award, The Honor Chapman Mentoring Award will combine business mentoring from a range of industry experts and the opportunity for up to £10,000 as an investment in the winning enterprise. Affiliate Town Chamber News and Events Axbridge Chamber Somerset Showcase 2012 After last year’s success, Axbridge Chamber of Commerce will again be hosting Somerset Showcase and plan to make this year’s event even more successful. Somerset Showcase 2012 will again be held in the historic town of Axbridge on Saturday May 5 th. The event is a celebration of Somerset country arts and crafts, food and drink along with a large helping of fun for all ages. The festivities start at 10am and continue through the day until live music and a firework display in The Square brings it to a close at 11pm. The carnival queen will open the event at 10am followed by a peel of bells to announce the start of the day. The Spring Fayre Market in the medieval town square will be offering a fine selection of local produce and arts and crafts with a street market close by offering an interesting range of wares. For those with an ear for music, there will be a variety of live performances throughout the day from The Axbridge Singers, the Pied Piper with medieval musical instruments and two Brass Band performances. The ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party Café’ will be serving morning coffee, wine, luncheon and afternoon cream teas. Both the museum and the two churches will be open all day. The Red Barrows display team will be performing a novelty low level fly past in the Square and the public houses will, of course, be serving a fine selection of beers, cider, wines and spirits. There will be much to keep the younger ones entertained too including Punch and Judy shows which will be held at Compton house. Children will be escorted to the performances by The Pied piper. Compton House will also be serving afternoon cream teas. There’s also a children's disco 5pm - 7pm. In the evening the party gets into full swing with a firework display, a live band performing in the square and the Mad Hatters Tea Party Café’ bar open from 7pm.
