Partnership[T]he statewideguardian ad litem is anelegant combinationof effectiveness andaccountability, ofindividuals joining handswith government to givea voice to innocent kidswho are suffering throughno fault of their own.Florida TrendGovernment alone cannot meet the needs of Florida’sabused, abandoned, and neglected children.Individual guardians ad litemhelp children connect withpeople and resources in theircommunities, and the Programalso has partnerships throughoutFlorida supporting our missionand donating critical resourcesto the children we represent.We collaborate with counties, localcharities, professional associations,and corporations, and our localprograms are supported by anot-for-profit organization in everyjudicial circuit. These entitiesprovide resources ranging frombackpacks, camps, and MRIsfor individual children to holdingGAL volunteer recognitionevents, funding positions, andhelping recruit foster parents.The Program’s direct-supportorganization, the Florida GALFoundation has also establishedstatewide partnerships tofurther the Program’s mission.14I didn’t think much of it when my GAL was appointed – I’d become accustomedto fighting my own battles, but they helped me in ways I never expected.To this day, when I think of my GAL, I am reminded that good people stillexist and that it’s perfectly okay to have those people fight by my side.
15TriumphIn 2019 the Florida GAL Foundation began a scholarshipprogram to recognize outstanding foster care youthcontinuing their education called the TRIUMPH Award.The three finalists all received a laptop computer tohelp further their educational success. Additionally, firstplace received a $5,000 college scholarship, secondplace received a $3,000 college scholarship andthird place received a $2,000 college scholarship.2016 – The Guardian ad Litem Program reaches a milestone of having 10,000 volunteers.2020 – Florida’s Guardian ad Litem Program celebrates its 40th year, with gratitude tothe citizens, organizations, and state and local government decision-makerswho have supported us and with a continued commitment to the best interestsof the abused, abandoned, and neglected children we represent.Years
