Larona cutie :* : “Hi SKY”

SKY: “Hi Larona”

Larona cutie :* : “I know you guys talk about

shapo ka smoking. Ne ke ipotsa if it’s ok to

talk about teenage pregnancy?”

SKY: “Yes love, everything we feature on our

magazine is what girls in Botswana want to

talk about. So wassup?”

Larona cutie:* : “ Thebathong I wanna talk

to young people about teenage pregnancy

because there are many girls in my school

that drop out because of it. Please help, how

can I inspire young people?”

SKY: Hi Larona, that’s amazing that you feel

the need to inspire young people and talk to

them about a problem you’ve noticed in your

school. Keep it up!

26

Let me ask you a few questions:

Teenage

pregnancy

1. Don’t you guys have this discussion in

your guidance and counselling class,

kana ko Moral Education?

2. What message would you like to send to

your school mates?

3. And lastly, why do you think the girls in

your school fall pregnant?

Larona cutie :* : “Well first of all, I think

adults like to pretend gore young people

aren’t having sex but then act shocked

when their daughters fall pregnant. It really

upsets me when many girls leave school to

have babies when they could be getting an

education. It’s not fair to not give young

people the right tools and information they

need to stay safe and prevent pregnancy so

that they can stay in school and finish. That’s

why I’m passionate about this topic because

it affects girls’ education. Gape we always

shame girls when they fall pregnant which is

not ok.

Even our parents don’t want to talk to us

about sex so I wonder where they think we’re

gonna learn anything. Some young girls are

taken advantage of ke basimane ba ko UB

kana those that are working just because

they are young and naïve kana ba se confident

to say NO! The guys ba ba bolella gore they

can take care of them and send them airtimenyana

or buy them stuff they can’t afford.

I have a friend, she’s 16 dating a guy yoo

ko Limko o mo bechetsa ka Nandos and I’m

scared she might get pregnant because she

keeps missing her periods. So I think we need

to talk more about this with our teachers and

our parents. Kana legale SKY can actually

discuss this on the magazine kana on SKY

Live?”

SKY: You seem like a really smart girl with

a bright future. We’re really proud of you

and the level of maturity you possess to

recognize such a need in young people’s

education. Thank you for being a voice for

many girls around Botswana <3 You bring up

important points as to why young girls fall

pregnant. Like what you said, to protect our

girls, sex education is necessary to have in

the curriculum and at home. Otherwise young

people are going to do whatever they think

is right but fail. We also need to make sure

boys and men take responsibility when it

comes to safe sex. The older men you mention

should be reported when they impregnate

a school girl. What’s a UB dude doing with

a high school girl in school uniform? They

should leave them to finish and graduate.

Do they not care about their future?

#LeaveTeenageGirlsAlone! You have ignited

such an interesting topic Larona and we hope

we can meet you so we talk in person. Maybe

SKY can come to your school? ;)

Larona cutie :*: “Woowww!! Thank you soooo

much SKY. I’m so happy we have SKY Girls

and we can talk about everything because we

need this.”
