day is done.” Sit back, relax and let the scenery of the

Mississippi Delta pass by your private compartment

on your Amtrak sleeper car. Enjoy breakfast and lunch

in the dining car as part of your tour and just relax as

you hear the “wheels rumbling beneath the floor.” By

mid-afternoon arrive in New Orleans. Transfer to your

ENVIRONMENT TOUR (B, L)

There are so many interesting things you will see and do

today that will put you in touch with the “natural side”

of Louisiana. Start off with a Canjun swamp tour; see

100 year old cypress trees, dugout pirogues, alligators

and other wildlife all the while Captn’ McCully narrates

in his thick Cajun accent. Next, enjoy lunch in a

traditional local Cajun eatery. This afternoon see how

Bayou boats are made at the Center for Louisiana Boat

Building. Make a stop at the Collins Oyster Company

and see how oysters are shucked and hear stories

about how the Collins Oyster Beds are some of the

best in the state. Finally, visit Chines Cajun Net Shop

and see and hear how Potato Sack Nets are made

and used. The oyster and shrimp industry rely on these

nets for their livelihood. Head back to New Orleans

to relax and enjoy an evening at leisure to explore the

French Quarter.

DAY 5•WHITNEY PLANTATION/PALM COURT

JAZZ CAFÉ (B, D)

Visit the Whitney Plantation; the only plantation that tells

the story of slaves in first person narrative with restored

buildings, memorial artwork, and museum exhibits.

Next head back to New Orleans to get primed for a

fun evening ahead. This evening you are in for a real

treat as we’ll spend the evening at the Palm Court Jazz

Café. The Palm Court Jazz Cafe, housed in an old

French Market warehouse, has become something of a

traditional Jazz Center in New Orleans. The Palm Court

has been providing New Orleans jazz in a casual

atmosphere with live music and fine dining for over 30

years. So get ready for an evening of food and fun at

the Palm Court Jazz Café. It’s a great way to end your

New Orleans trip; you’ll love it!

DAY 6•MARDI GRAS WORLD/FLY HOME (B)

This morning get an up-close and personal look at what

it takes to bring Mardi Gras to life year after year at

Mardi Gras World. See artists that build the floats from

the ground up, the costumes that are so colorful, and

learn the history of the unique festive tradition and much

more. Then head home with fond memories of your trip.
