ARCHITECT.
Abie Abdillah is an emerging Asian design
talent. Trained as industrial design
student, from the college years,
and strengthened from his experience
as a junior designer, for a furniture
manufacturer and design studio based
in Jakarta.
Having a keen passion on working with
local materials, such as rattan and teak wood,
Abie has gained recognition of his works,
thanks to numerous awards and publications,
and has designed products for many important
companies in Europe and Asia.
He is now starting his own studio called
“studiohiji”, which is based in Tangerang,
Jakarta.

The creation of Yoko Sofa Set started from
a Designer Dispatch Service programme,
initiated by the Ministry of Trade
of the Republic of Indonesia and the Japan
International Cooperation Agency.
The project‘s aim was to increase the value
of the local manufacture through design.
By working with one of the most versatile
manufacturers, he created the Yoko Sofa Set
to expose the essence of the used materials:
a combination of powder-coated aluminum
steel with rattan or synthetic weaves.
