TURRET PREDOMINANTLY FIXED LENS

A turret camera has a ball-and-socket type of design, which can be easily swivelled around in its

“socket” once it has been mounted. Turret security cameras are becoming more popular when used

outdoors. They don’t have the spider web attracting qualities of a bullet style, nor the reflection issues

a dome can suffer. The easy adjustment also makes turret security cameras a popular choice. Unlike

dome cameras, the lack of dome shell makes turret cameras free from glare effects.

EYEBALL PREDOMINANTLY VARIFOCAL OR MOTORISED ZOOM LENSES

Eyeball cameras are a variation of the turret camera, using the same kind of ball-and-socket design.

The main difference being the central lens is motorised, as opposed to the fixed lens of a turret. The

circular design allows the ringed area around the central lens to potentially hold a greater number of

IR LEDs if required and can subsequently increase the IR range of the camera in certain models.

studies have found the presence of security cameras will make your property a less desirable target.

The main benefits of bullet cameras are their range and installation. Bullet cameras have a longer range

which makes them ideal for viewing larger areas. They are easy to install, and due to the shape, bigger

lenses can be fitted to them.

FIXED DOME WITH FIXED, VARIFOCAL OR MOTORISED ZOOM LENSES

The Dome camera has been one of the most popular choices for a long time and is the most common

type of camera that you are likely to see in modern indoor installations. These cameras offer vandal

proof features as the lens is fully covered by a vandal proof acrylic dome which is secured with torx

screws and the housing is all metal. The design is also harder for people to tell where the camera is

pointing and naturally more discreet.

HIGH SPEED DOME / PTZ

PTZ cameras, or Pan, Tilt and Zoom cameras have a mechanism that is motorised and can be

controlled remotely or set to follow a pattern of locations and zoom levels that it cycles through. These

are mainly for use in situations where you would have a manned monitoring station where staff can

control the camera remotely, such as in supermarkets, shopping centres and crowded areas like city

centres or sporting venues. Various models will offer different levels of zoom, to enable detailed views in

a narrow field of view or a wider view of a whole scene.

THERMAL

The Concept Pro Thermal Range is specially designed to detect temperature fluctuations and can

display the live temperature on screen. Display of the thermal image is highly customisable and the

cameras create images based on the heat that radiates from any object, vehicle or person.

A thermal camera is less sensitive to problems with light conditions, such as shadows, back-light,

darkness and even camouflaged objects meaning that a thermal camera can detect the heat signature

from intruders even in dense fog or zero light.

FISHEYE

The Concept Pro Fisheye Camera is ideal for wide coverage in situations where there is limited space

for traditional cameras or where there is limited space for installation.

As an IP camera it is compatible with ALL Concept Pro NVR’s and the Concept Pro Viewer app, to

enable monitoring remotely. One Camera can cover an entire room if positioned correctly.

DECIDING BETWEEN AHD & IP

Lower cost

AHD Recorders and AHD cameras come with a

lower cost than their IP counter parts. AHD systems

are also popular where existing Coaxial cable is

installed and you don’t want to upgrade the entire

cabling system as well as the CCTV equipment.

Simplicity

AHD cameras are straight forward to set up and run,

there are also limited features of AHD cameras which

makes them easier to maintain.

Resolution Options

Whilst there is less choice of resolution options for

AHD cameras compared to IP the options available

are suitable for most installations. Concept Pro

offer 2MP and 5MP options, both of which are high

definition and offer clear images.

Legacy Installs

If you have an old analogue install AHD may offer a

more cost effective upgrade path to high definition

CCTV as AHD equipment shares most of the cabling

and infrastructure.

Remote Viewing

Whether you pick AHD or IP for your CCTV system

there are multiple remote viewing options provided

by Concept Pro available on PCs, Mobile Phones

and Tablets.

More Capable cameras

Many IP cameras can support motion detection, sound

detection and can connect directly to alarm triggering devices

to send alarms to the recorder without the need to have them

wired directly to your recorder.

Less cables

IP Cameras are powered by the same cable that transmits the

video footage, audio and alarms etc, so less cables are required

for the installation.

Resolution Options

IP offers a wide variety of resolution options to suit any

installation requirement. Concept Pro offer 2MP, 4MP and

8MP Ultra High Definition, all of which offer clear crisp images.

The more detail required at greater distances the higher the

resolution you should choose.

Future Proofing

IP is the most advanced camera type available today, so if

you wish to future proof yourself as much as possible, then

IP systems are the best choice. They can be expanded upon

as your system grows. They are more expensive than AHD

cameras, but this future proofing actually makes them a very

cost effective choice in the long term.

Remote Viewing

Whether you pick AHD or IP for your CCTV system there are

multiple remote viewing options provided by Concept Pro

available on PCs, Mobile Phones and Tablets.

CHOOSING A

LENS TYPE

WHICH LENS TYPE IS BEST FOR ME?

To get the most out of your CCTV camera it is important to gain an insight into the CCTV camera lens types first.

CCTV camera lens types can be divided into three groups; Fixed Lens, Varifocal Lens and Motorised Zoom Lens

Fixed Lens

The focal length of a CCTV security camera with a fixed lens is permanently set, meaning the field of view of fixed lens security

cameras cannot be changed. Fixed Lens cameras are the most cost effective lens choice but due to the field of view being

fixed there is no ability to optically zoom into the image. Concept Pro fixed lens options are predominantly 2.8mm which offer a

wide field of view. If greater detail at a distance is required then it may be worth considering a varifocal or motorised lens model.

Varifocal Lens

CCTV cameras with a varifocal lens allow you to adjust the focal length for your specific needs. For example with a 2.8-12mm

varifocal lens you can choose to have a wide field of view to show a large area or a narrower field of view to concentrate the

view on a scene at a distance. Varifocal lens cameras require the lens to be manually adjusted at the camera and are therefore

suitable for tweaking the level of zoom to optimise the view for areas like an entrance during installation but are not suitable if

you need to zoom into areas whilst looking at live footage.

Motorised Zoom Lens

Just like the varifocal lens options motorised allows you to adjust the focal length for your specific needs but with the added

advantage of operating the lens remotely from the recorder. This makes set up much easier and also allows the user to zoom

into live footage remotely using the Concept Pro Viewer mobile app, iPIMS VMS or at the recorder itself.

AUDIO

Traditionally cameras, PIR sensors,

Microphones, alarm sounders or any

other accessory used to be individually

powered and individually cabled back to

the recorder.

Attached devices can accurately detect

movement, listen to the area and send

audio to the camera.

Usually the sensors/accessories are

located close to your camera as the area

you want to listen to/detect is usually the

area you want to record.

IP systems now offer you the ability to

cable into the camera directly and draw

power from it.

Cat5/6 cable from the camera to the

recorder is needed for:

When your devices are set up the NVR

or DVR can be configured to record at a

higher quality when a sensor is triggered.

You can also choose to send audio through

an attached speaker, allowing dialogue

or warnings with people who have been

detected. Should you wish, additional

lighting can be triggered by any detected

events which act as a deterrent and also

will give you a more defined image.

It is important to consider the level of detail

required in an image so that it matches your

needs. The practical effect of this is that a camera

may need to have a wider or narrower field of view

so that the necessary amount of detail can be

seen and in some cases more cameras may be

needed, either to increase the area covered with

the same detail or to allow for different levels of

detail to be seen from the same view.

Field of View

What is it and why is It important?

With CCTV cameras, you must take into account how many

degrees opens, when they tell you that it is a camera 2.8mm,

3.6mm or 12mm etc it is telling you it’s aperture and therefore

what field of view you can get.

If the number is bigger it means that it opens less degrees,

if the number is smaller it means that it opens more.

Normally you can tell, that the security camera is varifocal, from

2.8 to 12mm for example, this means that you can increase and

decrease the degree of vision, normally varifocal CCTV cameras

are more expensive than fixed lens cameras. Fixed lenses do not

vary the angle of vision.

In the diagram below, it shows you that a 2.8 mm lens CCTV

camera opens 90 degrees, ideal for wall to wall in a residential

room and looks very good up to a distance of 5 meters. If you

have a 16 mm lens, it gives you an angle of vision of approximately

19 degrees, you can view up to between 70 and 80 meters.

There are security cameras that are known as fisheye and these

cameras are usually placed in the centre of an area so that the

angle of vision can view a whole room from a central point.

These cameras are available in 180º or 360º options, depending

upon your requirements.

Benefits of different resolution options

Higher resolution can provide a slightly

larger field of view but the main benefit is to

provide more detail at greater distances. In

IP systems, you will need a higher Bitrate

to fully realise the benefits of a higher

resolution system, which will in turn increase

the storage requirements for your footage.

Higher resolution with frame rate remaining

constant will result in more storage required

in AHD systems.

The higher the resolution the more detail

(pixels) it can capture and the larger pictures

can be without becoming blurry. So if you

need to view detail at a distance, then a

higher resolution may be the way to go.

Alternatively, varifocal or motorised zoom

cameras can show detail at a distance,

although this will narrow the field of view

visible. A fixed lens UHD (Ultra High

Definition) camera will give you superb detail

and retain your wider field of view.

If you use higher resolution cameras

without the appropriate storage you will

need to either lower the frame rate which

may result in choppy images or on IP

you may need to lower the bit rate which

reduces the detail in the images.

The better solution is to ensure you have

adequate storage space for your footage

requirements, ie how long it needs to be

stored for, such as 30 days.

Please note if you want to see the benefits of higher resolution cameras, it is important you take into account the additional

storage space you will need. Higher resolution means more detail in the image which means larger file sizes.

Other factors to consider when choosing a CAMERA

Higher resolution, higher FPS and the

quality & file size. 3.5 Mbit/s is SD

(standard definition) quality.

Frames Per Second (FPS) will make

your footage appear ‘choppy’ when

set low, but higher FPS will require

more storage space.

Video can be compressed using a

Codec such as H.265, which offers a

better storage size for footage than the

previous Codec H.264.

INFRARED - NIGHT IMAGES

Infrared CCTV cameras have the capability to capture video in low light and zero light

areas by using built-in IR LEDs. No matter what the lighting conditions are, infrared

detects the returning infrared light from objects in view and this can be sensed by the

camera with no other light source. Infrared can also travel through fog, dust and smoke

no matter how thick. When light is available, infrared cameras will give a colour picture.

As it gets darker, the camera automatically switches to night mode. In this mode, the

camera records in black and white.

Because IR is invisible to the human eye it is ideal for covert surveillance; the camera

can see, but the intruder cannot. As their light cannot be seen, IR LED’s are the perfect

solution in sensitive areas where light pollution needs to be avoided in areas such as

residential neighbourhoods and parks.

IR illumination also works well over long distances. Therefore in many applications IR

illumination is perfect for CCTV, allowing cameras to capture crisp, clear images in black

& white, and optimising camera performance.

distance of an object so that the infrared

does not overexpose the object

Impact on IR Distances:

Various surfaces absorb IR light and this

will impact distances. As each surface

is different, definitive impact on range is

hard to measure.

Infrared cameras ensure clear images

regardless of light level however there exists

a new generation of cameras that focus

on keeping colour images in very low light

conditions. These are marked as low light

cameras; they have a larger sensor and a

wider aperture to allow in more light and

therefore remain in colour for longer. The

cameras also reduce their shutter speed in

very low light conditions, although this lets in

more light to retain colour images it can be

problematic.

In scenes with lots of movement the slower

shutter speed can cause blurring of images

whereas a camera in night mode with IRs

can provide the right brightness and contrast

with faster shutter speeds.

The 5MP AHD 4in1 Turret camera is the same as the 2MP version but with a higher resolution

and slightly narrower field of view due to the 3.6mm lens vs the 2.8mm.

This camera is ideal for scenarios where a wide field of view is required and more detail is

required for objects. The higher the resolution the more detail the camera can capture which

preserves image quality through the digital zoom. As the camera is capturing more detail the file

sizes at a consistent frames per second to the 2MP variant will be higher.

This may require more storage space or to use a lower frame rate. The higher the frame rate the

smoother the footage will appear. Available in White or Dark Grey.

This is our enhanced low light turret camera and as the name suggests it is better

equipped to deal with low light situations. The camera has a larger sensor to allow more

light, this in turn allows the camera to remain in colour for longer, providing colour images

in low light conditions. The Audio input & output allow the camera to be connected

directly to a speaker and microphone. The Alarm input & output allow the camera to

be connected directly to any device that works on an alarm relay, for example you can

connect a motion detector directly to the camera using the alarm input and connect the

camera to a flood light, electric gate via the alarm output

the camera can be connected to a variety of auxiliary devices to enhance the security of your

installation. To ensure you see the benefit of the higher resolution it is important you account for

The motorised zoom version of the 4MP IP Turret camera range is our most cost effective

motorised zoom camera in the Concept Pro Range. A Motorised zoom allows you to

customise the field of view. Starting from a wide image to a narrower one, essentially

magnifying an area and reducing the view. This is ideal for cameras that are covering

doorways where it is important to be identify people passing through. The Audio input &

output allow the camera to be connected directly to a speaker and microphone.

The are no Alarm inputs or outputs on this camera due to limitations in the size of the

housing, however if you need a motorised zoom camera with this function our Eyeball,

Dome and Bullet Camera ranges will be ideal.

Concept Pro 6MP IP Fisheye Camera

The Concept Pro CBP360-IP is a 360 degree IP fisheye camera of up to

6MP resolution with built-in de-warping and a 10m IR range. Designed for

IP surveillance requirements that need to cover the entirety of a scene but

have limited space to install multiple cameras.

From a single ultra-wide angle lens, the camera can display a 360 degree

image of the scene and split it in to seven separate streams using its

virtual PTZ feature. This enables users to pan and zoom around the image

in the same way as a true PTZ camera.

Compatible with all Concept Pro NVRs, this camera is a cost-effective

solution as either a part of a larger IP CCTV system or as a standalone

alternative.
