Yearbook 2019/20

Welcome to the 2020 Yearbook for the 

British International School Abu Dhabi 

Yearbooks are wonderful keepsakes. They collect all 

our memories in one place so we can look back in 

the future to recall challenges and successes and the 

friends and colleagues we shared them with. Many of 

us will have yearbooks from the past and it is always 

a joy to look through them and think back to each 

particular year. 

Bearing the above in mind, a little context is important 

for those who may be reading this in the future! The 

year 2019-20 started as normal, but following the 

arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic the school buildings 

were closed and students undertook remote learning 

for all of Term 3. Thus we look back on a year which 

had two very distinct parts to it. 

Despite the changing situation, the school year at BIS 

Abu Dhabi showed students excelling and thriving 

just as they always have done. From outstanding 

academic achievement through to participation in 

extra-curricular activities and trips, students continued 

to benefit from all that was on offer. 

What we also see through these pages is the incredible 

sense of community in the school; students, staff and 

parents working closely together to ensure the best 

possible educational experiences for everyone. 

This community aspect is something very special 

with regard to personal development. From everyday 

collaborations through to the specific features of the 

Service programme, we see students helping each 

other and also helping people beyond the school. Our 

students are already making the world a better place 

and no doubt will continue to do so as they grow older. 

So to all readers, whether in 2020 or beyond, please 

enjoy these pages and the snapshot of life that they 

bring. “You are only young once” as the saying goes – 

the students of BIS Abu Dhabi are certainly making the 

very most of being young and gaining everything they 

can from their school.

unusual and at times lonely, but I am so proud at the way

celebrating that all important jump to the next grade 

level, or consoling you on a disappointing result. 

Hearing of extracurricular successes, reveling in your 

exciting university offers and future plans, or simply 

just having a chat and a quiz in 372 , while listening to 

my fabulous taste in music; I don’t think my mornings
