P&C Meeting
Monday 15 October
7pm
Staff Common Room
All Welcome!
From the Principal
It's Term 4. The weather is warming up. Life is more relaxed and the year is almost
over. WRONG!
This term will determine the pattern of classes that your children will be in next year.
The combination of assessments and examinations will be the data that we use to guide
us through class placements. There will be changes and students will be pleased with
promotions. Students will choose to be either promoted or demoted by their own
attitude to study. Their commitment will determine their classes in 2013.
We are more than happy to discuss student progress at any time but towards the end of
this term it will not be the time to complain about class changes. I hate to use football
metaphors but just because you are in the top team it doesn't guarantee your tenure.
There is always someone who aspires to better things and they are entitled to be
considered.
The key to solid results are not rocket science. Good attendance and completion of
work, as well as a respectful approach to teachers and study are all that is required.
From the Science Faculty
Students attend Rotary Youth
Agriculture Camp
Special congratulations to Casey Sheridan and
Mariah Carter who gave a presentation to
Bellingen Rotary arising from their recent trip to
the Rotary Youth Agriculture Camp for cotton
production in Moree District.
By way of thanks for the sponsorship to attend
this camp, Casey and Mariah gave an excellent
speech supported by a Power Point slide show to
Bellingen members of Rotary.
Our thanks should go to those Rotary clubs that
run youth camps, such as RYAG Dairy, Beef,
Sheep, Cotton, Equine and even Marine, and to
the local Bellingen Rotary Club which has, over
the years, sponsored many Bellingen High
School students to attend these camps.
Gold and Silver Excursions
Farmer Nick
The Gold Excursion to the Gold Coast is on the Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th December
visiting Wet 'n Wild and Movieworld. Our Silver Excursion is also to the Gold Coast and will
occur on Tuesday 4th December to Movieworld or Wet 'n Wild - students are able to choose
which theme park they would like to attend for the day. Permission notes are available
now from Miss Taylor or Mr Wickham. Bronze Awards for Term 3 should be displayed
shortly.
The cost of the Gold Excursion is $240 and the Silver Excursion is $95. A non-refundable
deposit of $50 is due to the Front Office by Friday 2nd November. The balance is due on
Friday 23rd November.
We are again running our "lay-by" system. If you think you will be up for some costs,
whether it is a major excursion or similar thing, you can pay the activity off gradually. If
for some reason your child does not go on the Gold Excursion and it is before the forfeit of
deposit date, then we will refund your money. If you wish to take advantage of the "layby"
system, go to the Front Office, nominate the activity and make your payment - now is a
good time to start, the 4th and 5th December are not that far away.
Please remember students who are on Loss of Privileges (LOP) for uniform or have been on
Level 3 or above this year are INELIGIBLE to attend these excursions.
Sport News
20/20 Hits the High Schools!
Bellingen High School competed in the inaugural T20 High Schools competition on
Friday, 14 th September at Connell Park. The schools were playing for a position in
the final of the Phillip Hughes Shield. Bellingen High had two teams in the
competition a Year 7 and 8 team and a Year 9 and 10 team.
No one really knew what to expect, however, the day was a great success with all
players really enjoying the short form of the game. A special thank you to Ron Auld
who ran the day ensuring there were no hitches.
The Year 7 and 8 team had to take on Coffs Harbour High School in their first
game. Captain Andrew Trist won the toss and selected to bowl. It didn’t take long
for the team to show their dominance with tight bowling restricting the scoring rate;
however, it wasn’t until the fourth over that the first wicket fell. After that the
wickets seemed to fall regularly and Coffs were all out in the 13 th over for a meagre
total of 29! Best bowlers were Zac Selem with 3 for 4 off 2 overs, Andrew Trist 1
for 1 off 2 overs and Sam Taylor 1 for 0 off 1 over.
Bellingen replied with a massive 106 off their shortened 16 overs. Best for Bellingen
were openers Andrew Trist (11) and Asama Radford (22) and an outstanding quick
knock of 35 from Jonty Neaves.
The second game saw Bellingen have to take on Woolgoolga High after they also won
their first game. This time Bellingen lost the toss and were sent in to bat. Losing a
wicket first ball was not the start we were after, but the team quickly recovered to
score another massive 104 from 16 overs. Best batters were Andrew Trist (11),
Byron Auld (13), Ben Radford (14) and again Jonty Neaves with 34 quick runs (seven
4s and one 6).
This set a formidable task for Woolgoolga. Good tight bowling saw the first three
overs amassing a total of 1 run. After this Woolgoolga started to pick up the pace
however, it was always going to be a bridge too far. Woolgoolga completed their 16
overs with 6 for 70. Best bowling figures were Byron Auld 2 for 7 off 3 overs, Jonty
Neaves 0 for 5 off 3 overs, Mason Fieldes 2 for 11 off 2 overs and Andrew Trist 0
for 7 off 3 overs.
This means this team will play the final of the Phillip Hughes Shield against the
winners off the southern area (Kempsey, Macksville, Nambucca) at Macksville on the
12 th October. They will welcome back the inclusion of Jessica Marks into the team
for the final after she was missing due to representative cricket commitments.

The Year 9 and 10 team also had to take on Coffs Harbour High School in their first
game. They were put into bat and proved the fact that a few nets sessions would
have got the rust out of their systems. Wickets were given away easily, with 9
players being bowled. Despite this we managed to reach a total of 72 in our allotted
16 overs. Unfortunately Coffs reached this total with 2 overs to spare. In our
second game against Woolgoolga the rust was well and truly banished with the team
scoring a magnificent 118, 2
players Darcy Balenzano and Justin
Alford both retired with an
unbeaten 40. Woolgoolga could not
match this score and were kept out
of the game with some tight bowling
and sharp fielding. Well done boys.
NSWCHS Lawn Bowls
Congratulations to Corey Wedlock in Year 10 who participated in the NSWCHS
Exchange Lawn Bowls event at Port Macquarie as part of the Combined High Schools
side.
Corey performed exceptionally well.
He was a member of the overall CHS
side that won the Neville Schwartz
Shield for the 4th consecutive year.
Individually, Corey performed equally
as well and should be extremely proud
of his efforts.
Corey was a great ambassador for
Bellingen High School. His coach
commented that Corey was always
polite, cooperative and enthusiastic
and it was a pleasure to have been his coach at the event. Well done Corey.

Safety: NO long hanging bracelets, necklaces or earrings, excessively loose
garments in practical subjects and sports activities.
Establishing and maintaining safe working environments is fundamental to the work of
teachers. Footwear is an important safety item. Good soles provide a sound grip on
the floor preventing accidents from occurring. Footwear can also protect feet from
mechanical or chemical damage. DEC policy clearly states that it is mandatory that
students carrying out practical activities using chemicals or equipment in schools wear
enclosed leather footwear. This includes all Science, Industrial Arts and Home
Economics classes. Our new Bellingen High School commercial stainless steel kitchen
began operation this year and no student will be allowed in without leather footwear.
Leather shoes can now be purchased for as little as $20. Leather skate shoes and
leather joggers are now readily available trendy options other than the traditional
school shoe.
We urge parents to provide their children with leather upper shoes so that we can meet
our OH&S obligations.
As a bonus these shoes are now a legitimate tax deduction and most people can claim
school uniforms.
Remember that if students are out of uniform they are
required to bring a note from home AND/OR see
the Deputy Principal for a red uniform slip.
