Facsimile Study Score
Score version July 2017
Cello Concerto: ‘Chemin des Dames’, a concerto for cello and orchestra, was
written for Sébastien Hurtaud with funding made available from the First
World War Centenary (WW100) Co-Commissioning Fund. This work marks
the centenary of one of the bloodiest battles of WWI at Chemin des Dames,
north-east of Paris. It also acknowledges the impact of the war on women
and their families. Farr’s own three great-great-uncles, three brothers, were
killed in the war and are buried in France and Belgium. It was premiered
by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Sébastien Hurtaud (vc) with
Hamish McKeich (cond.) at the Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington, New
Zealand on 5 May 2017.
