Associative Design Showcases the Best of

Refined, Contemporary Portuguese Design at

London Design Fair 2018

20th to 23rd September, Old Truman Brewery

At London Design Fair 2018, Associative Design will present an

eye-catching showcase of refined, contemporary Portuguese

design. Created by the Portuguese Association of Wood and

Furniture Industries (AIMMP), Associative Design seeks to

promote Portuguese design globally, exhibiting the best of

Portugal at many of the design world’s most discerning and

distinguished shows.

In today’s design sphere, the ‘Made in Portugal’ label is

attracting increasing amounts of attention and recognition;

it is a sign of quality, craftsmanship, innovation, integrity and

sustainability. A great number of contemporary Portuguese

design brands continue to build on the country’s prolific design

heritage, combining tradition with a modern-day outlook.

Despite Portugal’s relatively small population (around 10.3

million citizens), the nation’s design scene is burgeoning. With

an artistically and culturally diverse design offer, Portuguese

design is finding favour with design audiences across the world.

At London Design Fair, visitors can expect to find an

aesthetically pleasing mix of contemporary and luxury

Portuguese design and innovation, including furniture, lighting

and objets d’art. With its prominent stand on the ground

floor of the renowned Old Truman Brewery (Hall 1, Stand 1.11),

Associative Design’s “The Best of Portugal” showcase will

focus on the discerning consumer. Brands will display their

designs across a range of inspirational living spaces: lounge,

dining, kitchen and office. And with Portugal’s wealth of natural

resources, such as cork, wood and marble, an eco-friendly

theme will exhibit a selection of Portuguese materials.

always been culturally intrinsic as one of the

Magna Natura is the brand of a pioneering project,

unique for the use of cork in its pure state,

designing unique, unrepeatable products that

remain throughout generations.

The Magna Natura project became a reality, not

only because its leader, Isabel, was born in an

ancestral family working the cork, but rather

her incomparable intimacy with pure cork that

makes her wander the Alentejo plains, caressing

every cork oak under the clear blue sky and

the scorching heat, hearing the cicadas singing

incessantly, feeling the drops of sweat as if they

were callings, or the chills because she seems to

be able to touch the stars, so bright, and that huge

moon, so serene, so secretive of its dreams…

Armona

sideboard

Designed by

Mário Picoito, Tiago Rato

“With a strong inspiration in the giant dunes

of the ARMONA island, at Ria de Faro, this

sideboard has a bold and avantgarde design,

combined with a mixture of materials that

convey a sense of luxury and refinement, where

wood is “Lady and Queen”. Wanting to highlight

the noblest of materials - wood - this piece was

created with an extremely geometric design

but at the same time simulates the waves of

the sea, as well as those created by the wind

in the dunes. Covered with 388 cubes of wood

lacquered with intense matt and a foil-footed

of copper with high-gloss lacquer, this piece

easily becomes the center of attention in any

space in which it is inserted, as it reflects the

vast experience of our craftsmen and the most

traditional woodworking techniques used.”

NAUU DESIGN’s pieces convey quality, innovation,

personality, excellence, refinement, elegance, and,

above all, passion. These are the values we uphold

at NAUU DESIGN and which are imbedded in each

piece and every detail, from the time it’s imaged

to the time it’s completed. NAUU DESIGN’s main

mission is to offer a design that stresses quality,

excellence and distinction, anchored on the most

innovative joinery techniques. In accordance

with our values and mission, our goals align with

elevating Portuguese production beyond.
