Vladimir Stankovic
Vladimir Stankovic (born on May 7, 1949 in Knjazevac,
Serbia) has been a journalist for exactly 50 years now. He
spent the first half of his career in Belgrade, where he was first
a correspondent for the Vjesnik newspaper of Zagreb (1969-
1979), then sports chief at Borbba newspaper in Belgrade
(1979-1987), director of the weekly sports publication Tim
(1989), and founder and director of the Kos basketball magazine
between 1989 and 1991.
Since 1992 he has been living and working in Spain, mainly
with Mundo Deportivo newspaper, for whom he was a correspondent
while working in the former Yugoslavia. In Spain, he
was also vice-director of FIBA Basketball Monthly magazine
(1992-1993) and collaborated with several media. He still
writes for Mundo Deportivo, La Vanguardia and Gigantes del
Basket.
As a connoisseur of European basketball, he was also the
original press officer at Euroleague Basketball between 2000
and 2006. After a year in Moscow as director of international
relations for Dynamo, he was back to Barcelona as a freelance
journalist. Since then, he has been a regular collaborator with
the EuroLeague’s official website, where he has published
many articles about the history of the sport in Europe and the
club competitions. In this book, you will find updated versions
of the profiles of prominent players, all of them retired, in the
history of the European cups.
During his professional career, he has attended and worked
at many major events: seven Olympic Games, five World
Championships, 17 EuroBaskets, some 25 Final Fours and
several more finals. He is considered one of the continent’s
most knowledgeable authorities on basketball history. He is
also the author of 10 books, some of them about basketball.
