Cautions<br />

� Do not knock or hit the player, especially do not shake TFT screen<br />

in order to avoid TFT being damaged or displayed abnormally.<br />

� Do not put the player in high temperature place (over 40°C),<br />

especially not in the cars with window closed in summer.<br />

� Do not use the player in extreme cold, dusty or damp field. Do<br />

not expose it to direct sunshine.<br />

� Back up the data frequently in case of accident data loss.<br />

� Avoid using the player in strong magnetic field.<br />

� Do not use the player in the electronics-prohibited area, such as<br />

in the plane.<br />

� Keep the device away from water or other liquids. In the event<br />

that water or other liquids enter the device, power off the product<br />

immediately, and clean the device.<br />

� Do not use chemical solutions to clean the device in order to<br />

avoid corrosion. Clean it with a dry cloth.<br />

� Never use the player during driving a car or using other vehicles<br />

to avoid traffic accidents.<br />

� Reduce the volume level or stop using the product when a<br />

ringing ear or auditory hallucination occurs.<br />

� Never disconnect the player from PC during downloading,<br />

uploading and formatting to avoid failures and losses of data.<br />

� We are not responsible for damages or lost data caused by malfunction,<br />

misusing, repairing the device or battery replacement.<br />

� Do not attempt to disassemble, repair or modify the product. This<br />

will invalidate guarantee.<br />

� The design of the player or actual display may be different from<br />

what is shown in this manual. It should be subject to the actual<br />

Charging the Battery<br />

The device has a rechargeable built-in lithium polymer battery. It is<br />

charged via USB connection. You are required to charge it when<br />

you use it for the first time.<br />

To charge the battery, connect the larger end of the USB cable to<br />

the USB interface of PC, and connect the other smaller end of the<br />

USB cable to the USB interface of this player. The device is connected<br />

to PC and being charged. If you want to know the charge<br />

progress, disconnect the device safely by clicking the “ ” icon.<br />

You see an animating battery icon indicating charge progress.<br />

When the icon becomes green, the battery is fully charged.<br />

Notice: The device is not available during charging.<br />

Reset Function<br />

If the player can’t be used normally for some<br />

reasons (should not happen in normal operation),<br />

please use a small cylindrical plastic stick to reset<br />

the player.<br />

In this case the player should not be connected to<br />

the PC or an adapter.<br />

Playing Music<br />

Enter the Music Mode<br />

Press and hold the RETURN button to display the main menu. Use<br />

the � or � button to select “Music” menu, and press the<br />

button to confirm selection. Now you are in the MUSIC mode, refer<br />

music playing to the basic operations.<br />

Lyrics<br />

This player supports the lyrics function with <strong>MP</strong>3 playback.<br />

Important<br />

Lyrics file format has to be *.LRC.<br />

File name has to be the same as the songs name.<br />

Lyrics file has to be placed in the folder of the song.<br />

Folder Navigation<br />

To navigate through folders:<br />

1. In the MUSIC mode, shortly press the RETURN button to enter<br />

folder navigation mode.<br />

2. To get access to an inserted SD/MMC card and the integrated<br />

memory as well you again have to press RETURN shortly.<br />

3. Press the V+ or V– button to select a folder or track, and press<br />

the button to confirm selection.<br />

Playing Videos<br />

1. Press and hold the RETURN button to display the main menu.<br />

2. Use the � or � button to select “Video” menu, and press the<br />

button to enter the video player mode.<br />

3. Press the V+ or V– button to search a video file that you want to<br />

play, and press the button to play. For detail information<br />

about playing, see the “Basic Operation” section.<br />

Note: During playing, you can shortly press the RETURN button<br />

to enter folder navigation mode.<br />

Note: This player can only play AVI videos. For other formats,<br />

you need to use the converting tool included on the driver<br />

CD to convert them. For detail information about the converter,<br />

see AVI Converter Quick <strong>User</strong> Guide on the CD.<br />

Viewing Photos<br />

To view photos,<br />

1. Press and hold the RETURN button to display the main menu.<br />

2. Select “Photo” and press the button to confirm.<br />

3. Press the V+ or V– button to select a folder or image, and press<br />

to confirm.<br />

4. In the full screen mode, you can press the � or � button to display<br />

the previous or the next photo, press to start auto slide<br />

show (by setting the time interval between 1 and 5 in<br />

“Settings/Auto slide show/Photo”) or press the RETURN button to<br />

enter folder navigation mode.<br />

Note: Some images may not be displayed. Try to use an<br />

image viewer (ACDSee for example) to convert them. See<br />

“Convert image file” for details.<br />

Reading E-book<br />

Reading<br />

1. Press and hold the RETURN button to display the main menu.<br />

2. Select “E-book” and press the button to confirm.<br />

3. Press the V+ or V– button to select a .txt file, and press the<br />

button to open the selected file.<br />

4. Press the � or � button to page up/down, press the V+ or V–<br />

button to scroll line by line, or press the button to scroll down<br />

automatically (by setting the time interval between 1 and 5 in<br />

“Settings/Auto Slide show/Text”).<br />

5. During reading, you can use the bookmark to mark the page for<br />

resuming reading later. For information about bookmark, see<br />

next section.<br />

Using Bookmarks<br />

1. Go to the page that you want to mark.<br />

2. Press and hold the REC button to show up a “Save BookMark”<br />

window for saving bookmark.<br />

3. Press the V+ or V– button to select a line of the menu and press<br />

the button to confirm. The bookmark is saved. It starts from<br />

the first line of current page.<br />

4. To read the page that you marked, shortly press the REC button<br />

to show up the “Load BookMark” window. Select the bookmark<br />

and press the button to confirm. You will be guided to that<br />

page.<br />

Note: This player only supports TXT files in “ANSI” format, and<br />

does not support other formats. If the file size exceeds 400KB,<br />

it may take much time to deal with, so please try to control<br />

the file to be about 400KB or smaller than that.<br />

Browsing all Files<br />

To browse all files stored in the player,<br />

1. Press and hold the RETURN button to display the main menu.<br />

2. Select “Explorer”, and press the button to enter the browser<br />

mode.<br />

3. You see a folder named “Internal Memory”. If a SD/MMC card is<br />

inserted, you also see a folder named “Memory Card”. Select<br />

the folder you want and press the button.<br />

4. Press V+ or V– button to select a folder or a file that you want to<br />

view, and press the button to play or display it.<br />

Voice Recording<br />

Record<br />

1. Press and hold the RETURN button to display the main menu.<br />

2. Select “Record”, and press the button to enter the recorder<br />

mode.<br />

3. Shortly press the REC button to start recording. During recording,<br />

you can press the button to pause/resume recording.<br />

4. Shortly press the RETURN button to stop and save recording.<br />

Play Recordings<br />

To play the recording, switch to the MUSIC mode, enter folder navigate<br />

mode, search and play the recording file.<br />

Deleting File<br />

To delete a file:<br />

1. In the folder navigation mode, select the file that you want to<br />

delete.<br />

2. Press and hold the REC button until a dialogue box shows up.<br />

3. Use the � or � button to select “Yes” and press the button<br />

to confirm.<br />

FM Radio<br />

On the main menu, select “FM Radio” and press the RETURN button<br />

to turn on the FM radio.<br />

Search Station<br />

1. Shortly press the key to show the submenus. You see the<br />

menu items displayed on left side. You can press the V+ or V–<br />

button to switch highlighted menu.<br />

2. Switch to the “auto” or “manual”, and press the button to<br />

activate auto-search or manual-search mode. In the <strong>Manual</strong><br />

mode, press the � or � button to tune in stations.<br />

Save Station<br />

To save the found station:<br />

1. Shortly press the button to activate the submenus.<br />

2. Press the V+ or V– button to switch to the “Save” and press the<br />

button to confirm.<br />

3. Press the V+ or V– button to select an empty location for the<br />

station, and press the button to continue.<br />

4. Press the � or � button to select “Yes” or “No”, and press the<br />

button to confirm.<br />

5. Press the RETURN button to hide the channel list.<br />

Listen to Station<br />

To listen to saved station,<br />

1. Shortly press the button to activate submenus.<br />

2. Press the V+ or V– button to switch to the “preset” menu and<br />

press the button to enter the PRESET mode.<br />

3. In the PRESET mode, press the � or � button to select a saved<br />

station for listening.<br />

Delete Station<br />

1. Shortly press the button to activate submenus.<br />

2. Press the V+ or V– button to switch to the “delete” menu and<br />

press the button to continue.<br />

3. Press the V+ or V– button to select the station that you want to<br />

delete, and press the button to continue.<br />

4. Press the � or � button to select “Yes” or “No”, and press the<br />

button to confirm.<br />

5. Press the RETURN button to hide the channel list.<br />

Record FM Program<br />

When you are listening to a station, shortly press the REC button to<br />

record your favourite programs. For detail information about<br />

recording, see “Record” section.<br />

Exit FM Radio Mode<br />

To exit FM radio mode, shortly press the RETURN button.<br />

Playing Game<br />

This player provides a popular and funny game - Tetris World. To<br />

activate the game, on the main menu, select “Game” and press<br />

the button to enter the gaming mode. Basic operation is as<br />

follows:<br />

SD/MMC Slot<br />

After connecting the player to the computer, you will find two<br />

portable devices. One is the built-in memory device and the other<br />

one is the device associated to the SD/MMC card. This player<br />

supports SD/MMC card capacities from 128MB to 2GB.<br />

The player supports direct playing of songs on SD or MMC cards.<br />

Insert the card into the slot. The contacts have to be arranged in<br />

the direction of the screen.<br />

To access files on the card you have to enter the folder navigation<br />

mode (see “Browsing all files”). Pressing RETURN button once again<br />

brings you to “ROOT” where you can switch between internal Flash<br />

memory (display: Flash:\) and the card (display: Card:\). The<br />

selection is performed with .<br />

To take out the card, push the SD/MMC card slightly into the case.<br />

After it is ejected partially you can take it out.<br />

Note: Please don’t insert in or take out when the player is<br />

powered on. Otherwise, it will cause file loss.<br />

Firmware Upgrade (Windows Vista coming soon)<br />

You can upgrade the player to get the newest version of software<br />

by the following steps:<br />

Installation of the Upgrade Tool<br />

1. Insert the software CD into the CD-ROM of a computer.<br />

2. Run “custom updater setup 2.61.2.exe” to install the upgrade<br />

tool.<br />

3. Follow on-screen prompts to complete installation.<br />

Upgrading the Firmware<br />

1. Select and run the upgrading tool.<br />

2. With you can specify the firmware upgrading file<br />

provided by the vendor (available for instance at<br />

www.teac.de).<br />

3. Turn the player on.<br />

4. On the main menu, select the “Settings” item and press the<br />

button to enter the system settings mode.<br />

5. Press the V+ or V– button to select the “System” option and<br />

press the button to confirm.<br />

6. Press the V+ or V– button to select the “Upgrade” option and<br />

press the button to confirm.<br />

7. Press “Yes” and connect to PC using a USB cable.<br />

8. Click to start upgrading. The process may take<br />

up to 6 minutes. Relating information appears in the “Update<br />

Info” area until successfully updated. When update is finished, in<br />

this area “successful” will be displayed.<br />

9. Click to finish upgrading.<br />

10. Safely remove the player from the PC.<br />

11. Switch on the <strong>Player</strong>. It will automatically initialize settings.<br />

Convert and Play Video Files (Windows Vista coming soon)<br />

Install the AVI Converter<br />

1. Insert the provided installation disk into the CD-ROM drive, select<br />

and run “AVIConverter package Setup.exe” program, enter<br />

installation interface, then click [Next] button to display as<br />

follows:<br />

2. Click [I Agree].<br />

3. After selecting the installation routine, click [Install] button until<br />

the completion of installation.<br />

4. After the installation, click [Finish] button to finish the software<br />

installation.<br />

Conversion<br />

This player can convert the formats RM, VOB, DAT, RMVB into AVI<br />

video format via the provided video convert software.<br />

1. Run the “AVIConverter” program.<br />

2. Click and select the input file. At this point, file<br />

name will not be changed except for the extension (.AVI).<br />

Information on both the Input and the Output file will be<br />

displayed in the window.<br />

3. To save the Output File with a different name, type in desired<br />

name at “Target File Name”. Click<br />

, you can select<br />

other files. After finishing selecting, click to close this<br />

window.<br />

4. Click to convert entire file.<br />

5. After finishing the conversion (Progress = 100%, Status = Ok), click<br />

to exit.<br />

6. The successfully converted AVI video file can be played.<br />

Converting Steps<br />

Run the ACDSee program, select the image that you want to convert,<br />

and click “Tool” � ”Convert”.<br />

Select “JPG JPEG JFIF Format” and then click “Options”.<br />

On Windows <strong>Media</strong> <strong>Player</strong> 10.0 version (Windows XP only)<br />

1. Connect player to PC<br />

2. Choose the desired WMA music with DRM.<br />

3. Click Right button of mouse and choose “Add to Sync list”<br />

4. In the open window, choose “Sync” option.<br />

5. In “Sync” window, choose the desired WMA music with DRM as<br />

step 2) and choose “Removable Disk”<br />

6. Click “start Sync” to transfer the WMA music with DRM to player.<br />

This warranty may be enforced only by the original retail purchaser.<br />

What We Will Pay For<br />

We will pay all labor and material expenses for items covered by the warranty. Payment of shipping and insurance charge<br />

is discussed in the next section of this warranty.<br />

Warranty Period<br />

<strong>TEAC</strong> <strong>Europe</strong> <strong>GmbH</strong>, hereinafter called <strong>TEAC</strong>, warrants this product against any defect in material and workmanship for<br />

two (2) years from the date of purchase by the original retail purchaser. According to the following terms this <strong>TEAC</strong><br />

product will be repaired without charge of labor and materials by the authorized <strong>TEAC</strong> service stations, by the authorized<br />

<strong>TEAC</strong> dealers and/or their authorized service stations. <strong>TEAC</strong>, the authorized <strong>TEAC</strong> service stations, the authorized<br />

<strong>TEAC</strong> dealers and/or their authorized service stations may decide whether the defective product will be repaired or<br />

replaced as a whole or partially. The <strong>TEAC</strong> dependancies, the authorized <strong>TEAC</strong> service stations, the authorized <strong>TEAC</strong><br />

dealers and/or their authorized service stations will also honor this warranty in the other EC and EFTA member states<br />

based on the terms in this warranty conditions.<br />

How You Can Get Warranty Service<br />

1. If your unit needs service during the warranty period, please contact the local authorized distributor for this product.<br />

If you are unable to locate such a distributor, please contact your <strong>TEAC</strong> facility at the address indicated below.<br />

2. After identifying the nearest authorized service station for this product the product or any parts believed to be defective<br />

must be shipped freight and insurance prepaid to such service station, together with a copy of this warranty<br />

certificate and a copy of your sales receipt, showing the date of purchase. Please ensure to fill out the warranty<br />

certificate correctly (do not forget the serial number of the product). <strong>TEAC</strong> reserves the right to refuse the guarantee<br />

service if the documents are missing or incomplete in the understanding of this terms.<br />

If the necessary repairs are covered by the warranty, and if you have sent the product or parts of it to the nearest<br />

authorized service station, the return freight and insurance charges will be prepaid.<br />

Please do not return your unit to the <strong>TEAC</strong> factory without our prior authorization (see also RMA form)!<br />

Limitations of Liability and Exclusion of Implied Warranties<br />

Unless considered unenforceable or unlawful under the applicable national law:<br />

1. <strong>TEAC</strong>’s liability for any defective product is limited to repair or replacement of the product, at <strong>TEAC</strong>'s option and the<br />

option of authorized service stations, authorized dealers and their authorized service stations. No one is authorized<br />

to assume any greater liability on <strong>TEAC</strong>s behalf. <strong>TEAC</strong> shall not be liable for any damage to any other properties<br />

independant of their virtual or real nature especially there is no liability for any damage to any kind of software and/<br />

or any kind of databases caused by <strong>TEAC</strong> products. Furthermore <strong>TEAC</strong> is not liable for damages arising out of loss<br />

of use, loss of revenue or profits, or any other damages, whether incidential, consequential, or otherwise.<br />

2. All implied warranties or conditions, including but not limited to warranties or conditions of merchantability and fitness<br />

for a particular purpose, hereby are excluded.<br />

These warranty terms do not affect any statutory rights of consumers which were granted by the respective national laws.<br />

What is Covered and What is Not Covered.<br />

Except as specified below, this warranty covers any defects in materials and workmanship of this product. The following<br />

are not covered by the warranty:<br />

1. Damage to or deterioration of the external cabinet.<br />

2. Any unit that has been altered or on which the serial number has been defaced, modified, or removed.<br />

3. Damage, deterioration or malfunction resulting from:<br />

(a) accident, misuse, abuse or neglect;<br />

(b) failure to follow instructions supplied with the product;<br />

(c) any shipment of the product. Any damage arising of transportation is the liability of the freight company. Any<br />

damage arising of transportation and any implicit and explicit risks are the liability of the freight company. This is<br />

expressively not a liability of <strong>TEAC</strong>;<br />

(d) repair or attempted repair by anyone not authorized by <strong>TEAC</strong> to repair this product;<br />

(e) causes other than product defects, including lack of technical skill, competence or experience of the user. Especially<br />

damages which may arise of incidential use respectively by improper ventilation,<br />

(f) damages caused by improper or incorrect installation of software,<br />

(g) periodic check-ups,<br />

(h) maintenance respectively repair of parts due to normal wear and tear,<br />

(i) adoptions or adjustments to the product in order to conform to different national technical or safety standards of<br />

any country other than the one for which the product was originally designed and manufactured.
