The critical care phase

A patient may experience one or all of the following upon being admitted to the

hospital after a traumatic injury: anxiety, terror, pain, sadness and grief. Whether

admitted to general in-hospital care or the intensive/critical care unit, clients may

also experience ASD.

In-hospital recuperation

Clinical experience has shown traumatic scar clients usually spend a large

amount of time recuperating in the hospital. Their hospital stay usually involves

increased pain with exercise, and signs of anger and rage toward their

circumstances. It is typical to go through grief, depressive episodes and rapid

emotional shifting.
