LAURISTON GIRLS’ SCHOOL
Established in 1901, Lauriston is a leading Kindergarten to Year 12
school with a dynamic, progressive and innovative learning community.
Lauriston empowers its students to embrace challenge and change.
Its learning programs, co-curricular activities and community service
programs explore and develop each girl’s strengths and interests
in a supportive environment, teaching them to strive for academic
excellence and learn resilience, courage and intellectual curiosity –
skills for life.
Lauriston’s Year 9 at Howqua, set in the magnificent High Country
near Mansfield, is a unique experiential learning experience and a
journey of self-discovery. Alongside the standard Year 9 academic
program, Howqua’s Outdoor Program inspires students to step outside
their comfort zone and learn the courage and the confidence to try
new things. The small and nurturing community at Howqua creates a
strong sense of belonging and fosters collaboration and empathy. Most
importantly, the daily challenges teach the girls to trust in their own
capabilities and make the most of every opportunity.
From Prep to Year 12, Lauriston offers support structures through
formal sessions and one-on-one mentoring, with the aim of creating
a supportive environment where the students can develop their
potential, broaden their involvement in the School community and
make friendships across year levels. In the senior years, each House
has a Tutor group, giving students the opportunity to develop learning
goals and leadership skills and discuss day-to-day concerns with a
mentor and their peers.
In Years 11 and 12, Lauriston offers both the International Baccalaureate
(IB) and the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), giving its students
the opportunity to continue to explore a wide range of topics and
skills or focus more specifically on their passion.
Lauriston recognises that physical activity is vital to a student’s
emotional, social and physical wellbeing. The primary aim of the sports
program is to instil the importance of lifelong participation in physical
activity by making it fun, challenging and engaging. There is a wide
range of recreational, team and competitive sporting opportunities
to develop skills in collaboration, confidence and resilience. House
events are an important element of the Lauriston experience and
provide invaluable opportunities for girls to demonstrate leadership
and courage and to encourage interaction across year levels.
Experienced sport coaches individualise each girl’s programs and
goals so that she is always challenged and motivated.
Lauriston also offers diverse local and international learning
experiences that seek to expose students to current social issues and
motivate them to be change makers. From Kindergarten, students are
encouraged to engage in community service activities, with the aim
of teaching empathy and awareness of social and cultural difference
and inspiring students to contribute their talents and abilities to
benefit others.
Crucial to your child’s learning experience is passionate and
experienced teachers who are dedicated to the growth of your
daughter in all aspects of her School life. Lauriston is a leader in
educating its educators and ensuring staff have access to regular
professional development and innovative teaching practices.
A Lauriston girl has the skills, courage and confidence to rise to every
challenge and embrace every opportunity.
A Lauriston girl makes her own future.
