RUYTON GIRLS’ SCHOOL
An independent, forward-thinking girls’ school, Ruyton is
committed to preparing girls for a lifetime of learning, leadership
and engagement in the global community. Ruyton’s vision is to
inspire girls to be bold and to educate girls to live lives of impact
and purpose.
Ruyton’s Early Learning, Junior and Senior Schools are situated
on the one campus, fostering a strong sense of belonging and
authentic connection with opportunities for students to interact
across year levels and across sub-schools.
Learning
Students experience an innovative programme of learning,
leadership and engagement throughout their years at Ruyton.
Academic programmes are broad, challenging and creative, with
an emphasis on personalised learning.
Girls experience signature programmes such as: South House in
Year 4, Innovate Ed in Years 7 and 8, and an extensive elective
programme in Year 9 and 10. In Year 11 and 12 girls participate in
the unique Co-ordinate Programme with Trinity Grammar School.
Wellbeing
Ruyton is committed to empowering girls to flourish by embracing
emotional, social and physical wellbeing practices. Their approach
to wellbeing is both proactive and responsive. With sequential
and age appropriate programmes, Ruyton focuses on developing
resilient, confident and grounded young women.
Co-curricular
The extensive Co-curricular Programme at Ruyton enables girls
to follow their passions and challenge themselves in different
ways to discover their true capacity. Essential life skills
and characteristics are gained, such as time management,
resilience, grit and independence. Ruyton girls develop as
women of character and integrity.
Facilities
Learning environments are purposely designed to inspire creativity,
engagement and innovative thinking. A blend of heritage and
modern buildings fitted with state-of-the-art facilities provide a
place where students gain the skills for tomorrow.
Academic Performance
Acknowledged widely as a high performing academic school,
Ruyton continues to develop programmes and practices that
expand learning experiences providing girls with the knowledge
and future-ready skills to help them thrive in a rapidly changing
world. As a community Ruyton recognises that an ATAR score alone
does not reflect the richness of the stories of grit, determination
and success behind each girl’s journey.
‘We believe in girls’ is Ruyton’s ethos and practice. Empowering
girls to lead lives of impact and purpose with courage, character
and compassion; both now and in the future. This is how Ruyton
defines success.
Erasmus Primary School
the cultivation of every aspect
of the child’s being – body,
philosophy, meditation and
mindfulness practices as a way
of nurturing all four aspects of
the being. All children and staff
sit down together daily to eat
THE PROGRESSIVE ALTERNATIVE
An International Baccalaureate World School
Tel: 03 9817 6135
The International Baccalaureate provides Preshil with a
rigorous framework for inquiry and allows a continuum
of education from the Kindergarten all the way through
to the IB Diploma Programme in Years 11 & 12.
Through the IB, Preshil delivers an engaging, nurturing
and challenging curriculum, informed by leading
pedagogical research and with an uncompromising focus
on the individual wellbeing, strengths, passions and
future aspirations of each student.
PRESHIL - THE MARGARET LYTTLE MEMORIAL SCHOOL
Preshil is Australia’s oldest progressive school. With the Kindergarten,
Primary and Secondary schools based across two campuses in Kew,
Preshil is secular, independent and deliberately small. The school
focuses on the individuality of each child and the social relationships
that support their development as critical and creative thinkers.
At its core remains an unshakeable commitment to encourage all
children to set and achieve their own goals, and to be respected as
individuals in their own right. Preshil is committed to nurturing and
challenging its children in an atmosphere that inspires independent
thinking in all areas of life.
At Preshil, relationships between students and their teachers are friendly,
respectful and focused on learning, trust and a genuine regard for
individuality. Students are supported to challenge ideas, think critically,
make ethical judgements and define their own goals; the qualities of
independence and collaborative problem-solving essential for their
future. Remaining academically rigorous, Preshil continues as a school
that places kindness, compassion and social relationships at its heart.
As an International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum School, Preshil’s IB
Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes (PYP, MYP & DP)
are perfectly aligned with the School’s focus on intellectual challenge,
inquiry, and conceptually-driven learning. These IB Programmes
accommodate choice and agency, and encourage students to develop
the “courage to question”; to find their own voice and to become
responsible and engaged global citizens well beyond the classroom.
From the earliest years, children are encouraged to develop higher
order thinking through philosophy, play, problem-solving and exercising
choice. Respect and courage underpin a creative, rich curriculum which
nurtures and delights young minds. The Kindergarten environment
provides a natural world of adventure where the invitation to explore,
play, imagine and create is irresistible.
The PYP has facilitated a deepening of Preshil’s commitment to
inquiry-based, transdisciplinary learning. Through an inquiry-led
curriculum, children explore local and global issues through the lenses
of different subjects, imbuing them with the confidence to question
and think critically and creatively about the world around them.
Specialist French, Music, Physical Development and Art are equal
partners in a stimulating and challenging curriculum that combines
skills development with individual and collaborative projects.
The MYP encourages the development of Year 7-10 students as
active, compassionate and lifelong learners. The Programme facilitates
an intellectually vibrant curriculum that respects and supports the
individual learner. With an emphasis on authentic challenge and
creativity, students are motivated to identify and make connections
between traditional subjects and the tangible world.
The IB Diploma is a globally-recognised alternative to the state-based
Year 12 certificates and prepares students to meet tertiary study and
their chosen career paths with the maturity and depth of understanding
required to flourish. The DP liberates students from a rigid, competitive
curriculum; it respects the needs of the whole person, celebrating
independent learning and individual choice.
The Preshil approach to schooling does not use competition, the fear
of failure or the threat of punishment to motivate children. Preshil does
not demand conformity or unthinking obedience to arbitrary rules.
The rapport between students and their teachers is relaxed, based
on mutual respect, and focused on achieving outstanding learning
outcomes, trust and a genuine regard for each individual.
Preshil offers a truly contemporary, globally-minded alternative to
conventional schooling and continues to produce graduates who have
developed the courage to question; to find their own voice and to
become responsible and dynamic global citizens.
@nEtD8gr5
@F1URutod
In 2020 Oakleigh Grammar offers the promise of a melting pot of opportunities
for students and families, delivering along the same trajectory of its successes in
2019. Oakleigh Grammar continues to promote its three key pillars, in developing
the best possible Leadership, Community and Future opportunities for students.
With 750 students now enrolled from 50 different cultural backgrounds, Oakleigh
Grammar values each and every student, and offers a genuine commitment to
ensure your child will be engaged through a range of contemporary learning
programs.
The School believes that supporting internationalism at the school is not only a
true representation of Melbourne’s multiculturalism, but a critical mindset for
young people to absorb, as they move into a rapidly changing internationallyminded
society.
Oakleigh Grammar’s Principal, Mark Robertson and the Board of Governance, led
by President, Chris Damatopoulos, are committed to providing a safe and happy
learning environment, where every child is known personally, and individual
learning needs are met. Community is a priority, and a value that carries through
each section of the school, and extended to its surrounding contributors.
A state-of-the-art Early Learning Centre, through to the Senior School, are run
by dedicated teaching staff who work collaboratively and embrace opportunities
for professional development, ensuring that Oakleigh Grammar’s educational
programs remain to the forefront of contemporary education.
From Prep to Year 5, students learn skills for academic and social success that
will see them through Middle and Senior School, but also their lifetime. The
Leader in Me Programme is a school wide leadership framework based on
Dr Stephen Covey’s internationally acclaimed model, ‘The 7 Habits of Highly
Effective People’.
Oakleigh Grammar’s mission is to create quality learning opportunities for every
student to reach their full potential, and an ambition to develop the school
continues, with the implementation of a new car park on Clapham Road, and the
development of more classroom space, to extend greater access to the school
for parents and the wider community to enjoy.
“Let us welcome you into the Oakleigh Grammar family, and together we can
thrive as leaders in our community to create a better future for our children.”
LAURISTON GIRLS’ SCHOOL
Established in 1901, Lauriston is a leading Kindergarten to Year 12
school with a dynamic, progressive and innovative learning community.
Lauriston empowers its students to embrace challenge and change.
Its learning programs, co-curricular activities and community service
programs explore and develop each girl’s strengths and interests
in a supportive environment, teaching them to strive for academic
excellence and learn resilience, courage and intellectual curiosity –
skills for life.
Lauriston’s Year 9 at Howqua, set in the magnificent High Country
near Mansfield, is a unique experiential learning experience and a
journey of self-discovery. Alongside the standard Year 9 academic
program, Howqua’s Outdoor Program inspires students to step outside
their comfort zone and learn the courage and the confidence to try
new things. The small and nurturing community at Howqua creates a
strong sense of belonging and fosters collaboration and empathy. Most
importantly, the daily challenges teach the girls to trust in their own
capabilities and make the most of every opportunity.
From Prep to Year 12, Lauriston offers support structures through
formal sessions and one-on-one mentoring, with the aim of creating
a supportive environment where the students can develop their
potential, broaden their involvement in the School community and
make friendships across year levels. In the senior years, each House
has a Tutor group, giving students the opportunity to develop learning
goals and leadership skills and discuss day-to-day concerns with a
mentor and their peers.
In Years 11 and 12, Lauriston offers both the International Baccalaureate
(IB) and the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), giving its students
the opportunity to continue to explore a wide range of topics and
skills or focus more specifically on their passion.
Lauriston recognises that physical activity is vital to a student’s
emotional, social and physical wellbeing. The primary aim of the sports
program is to instil the importance of lifelong participation in physical
activity by making it fun, challenging and engaging. There is a wide
range of recreational, team and competitive sporting opportunities
to develop skills in collaboration, confidence and resilience. House
events are an important element of the Lauriston experience and
provide invaluable opportunities for girls to demonstrate leadership
and courage and to encourage interaction across year levels.
Experienced sport coaches individualise each girl’s programs and
goals so that she is always challenged and motivated.
Lauriston also offers diverse local and international learning
experiences that seek to expose students to current social issues and
motivate them to be change makers. From Kindergarten, students are
encouraged to engage in community service activities, with the aim
of teaching empathy and awareness of social and cultural difference
and inspiring students to contribute their talents and abilities to
benefit others.
Crucial to your child’s learning experience is passionate and
experienced teachers who are dedicated to the growth of your
daughter in all aspects of her School life. Lauriston is a leader in
educating its educators and ensuring staff have access to regular
professional development and innovative teaching practices.
A Lauriston girl has the skills, courage and confidence to rise to every
challenge and embrace every opportunity.
A Lauriston girl makes her own future.
Alia College is a small, alternative, independent, co-ed, non-religious secondary school, with an environment very different from the mainstream. Students
enjoy the more relaxed, ‘university’ style of learning.
Alia College seeks to develop students who are reflective and creative thinkers, encouraged and supported by a team of educators who are passionate, good
humoured, and collaborative - well, mostly they are. Students feel respected and connected with staff, and are more likely to be engaged in learning. At Alia
College, there are no rules, but rather an understanding of personal and community safety: there are no bells, no uniforms, students are free to come and
go as they wish, and teachers are addressed by their first names. Alia College is a school which is run on the premise of mutual respect, and students are
listened to.
Among other activities, Alia students can participate in debating, individual music tuition, theatre performances and musicals, work experience, lunchtime
sport, annual snow camp, twice-annual school camps, Year 10 Country Experience, Year 9 City Experience, and there exist other opportunities for students
to initiate their own extracurricular programs.
We encourage students to try out the school prior to enrolment, to ensure they and their families are happy to be part of our school community. Call today to
book in for a brief visit, or register for one of the upcoming information nights.
CHRIST WISDOM
KNOWLEDGE
Red Rock Christian College has a long and strong history of educating,
supporting and empowering primary students, and as of 2018, young
people in their secondary years.
At RRCC our belief that all young people are fearfully and wonderfully
made is at the heart of what we do. It motivates us to seek ways to see all
young people flourish. Our strengths-based wellbeing approach enables
us to focus on what is ‘right’ with people, to empower young people to
embrace their strengths, build a strong positive identity and establish
healthy relationships.
We have partnered with Peter Hutton, former principal of Templestowe
College, to create a flexible learning model which enables students to
progress according to learning readiness and not age. What we do is
empower students to own their learning, pursue their passions and
influence their world with integrity.
It is in the primary years that foundations are laid; foundations for building
a life of learning, for forming healthy mindsets, and for developing
character. A child’s experiences and environment in the early years are
highly influential in the way they see themselves and others. In the primary
years, we focus on developing a healthy identity, resilience of character
and the ability to value others and to interact positively with peers and
teachers. We know with a good foundation our children will be better
placed to thrive in and not just survive their years of school.
The Secondary years at RRCC is a place to build on this foundation – to
coach and walk alongside our teens as they become more independent in
their thinking, as they explore and form opinions about the world and their
place in the world. As a Christian school, we help our students understand
God’s loving view of the world and its people and to recognise the unique
ways in which they can bring life, justice and hope to the world.
The Secondary years are about honouring and supporting the capacity
within our young people to increasingly manage and choose their
education. It is about equipping them with character, skills and
understandings that will prepare them to influence their world with
integrity. From Prep right through their secondary years, education at Red
Rock Christian College is about empowering young people to know their
strengths, pursue their passions and to make a difference in the world.
At ELTHAM College we believe
in empowering our young
men and women to live their
passion, while discovering
a love of lifelong learning.
From Early Learning all the
way through to the secondary
years, schooling at ELTHAM College has always involved enjoyment,
fun, encouragement and nurturing of the individual.
Schools are constantly juggling the needs of a conventional classroom
and the demands of an ever changing, connected world. At ELTHAM
College we are committed to providing experiences that respond to
the intellectual and personal diversity of our students, while creating
spaces and opportunities for collaborative learning. Our young people
are encouraged to see life as a chance for unlimited learning, while
teachers have the privilege of helping to grow the hearts and minds of
the next generation.
At ELTHAM we aim to make sure that our young people can relate to
their world, understand their effect on it and use their creativity to help
shape it in positive ways. We ensure that young people are nurtured,
can aim high in life, continue learning, form successful relationships,
juggle the demands of a challenging and complex world, achieve
independence and greet opportunities with confidence.
The thinking environment at ELTHAM encourages our students to
undertake a journey of discovery and transformation. It’s about
enhancing individual talents, unearthing hidden skills and realising
potential. It’s learning from everything life has to offer and having
the desire and resilience to thrive in a diverse and constantly shifting
world. We see ourselves in the fortunate position to work, learn
and grow with truly amazing young people, each with so much to
contribute. We are focussed on their needs, for now and in the future.
Ultimately schooling at ELTHAM is built on a culture that champions
not only the seeking of answers, but values the importance of asking
the critical questions – prizing individual expression, innovative
thinking and the development of lifelong learning skills.
Just some of our key approaches are listed below:
Science and Mathematics
Science and Mathematics form a pivotal role within ELTHAM; as
such our purpose built senior science laboratories, observatory and
research grade equipment encourage innovation and collaboration.
Academic skills are further developed within engaging modules,
where our goal is to offer cutting edge programs within the Technology,
Science and Mathematics fields.
Literacy
Our goal is for every student not only to read and write, speak, listen
and view texts but to do so with energy, vibrancy, sophistication and
accuracy; to develop their critical thinking skills to the very highest
level of which they are capable. We aim to inspire a love of language
and a love of learning which will sustain students long after they have
left school.
Performing Arts
Music and drama form the soul of ELTHAM. Music is offered at Year
12, with both VCE academic music and VET music in performance
and sound. Our drama program offers exceptional opportunities that
challenge and motivate.
Located in an extraordinary environment students experience an
engaging, rigorous, world ready curriculum while being supported
with warmth care and respect.
to Year 12 Christian School.
The College mission is to educate our students to be well skilled,
understand life on the basis of biblical truth, and be motivated to walk
with God and serve Him in their lives. It is our desire that our students
will be great citizens who will bring a powerful, positive Christian
we do and pursue academic excellence on the basis of biblical truth,
relationship with God, and Christian values.
Our vision is for students to be courageous, creative, resilient and
confident, and to discover their capabilities, talents, and unique Godgiven
Our community of caring teachers and parents work together, united
through shared values and goals, nurturing each student’s potential
and a love of learning. Our staff believe they are called by God to
their roles as educators. They seek to impart knowledge and inspire
participation in a stimulating range of sporting, academic, service, and
cultural activities.
The Christian focus of the College provides an emphasis on practical
faith, Christian instruction and values, pastoral care, and service
opportunities. Our Global Horizons Program is a Service Learning
Program that incorporates ‘Head-Hand-Heart’ learning. It helps
students develop their gifts and talents in both local and international
contexts.
The College facilities include an outstanding Learning and Innovation
Centre, Performing Arts Building, an indoor sports stadium/
multi-purpose hall, new facilities and classrooms for secondary and
MacKillop
MacKillop College began as a single prefabricated
building among the Werribee Surrounds. With just four
classrooms and 102 students, it was the ‘experiment’ that
strove to be a contemporary educational establishment.
Fifty years later, the 1970 ‘experiment’ has become the
multi-complex facility we have today with gymnasium,
chapel, amphitheatre, digital technologies hub, music
and fibre center, art rooms and food technology
kitchens to meet the unique needs of the community and
our students.
Students are provided with guidance to become
advocates for transformation in the world, and we
see the truth of this in the student-run extra-curricular
groups. Complementing all areas of teaching, the
International Programs and local volunteer projects also
serve to grow the whole person further still.
While we look back on 50 years of successful education,
we also look forward to the changes and prospects
to come – to the opportunity to nourish and develop
future generations of students to become proactive and
responsible global citizens of our world. As we adapt to
a rapidly changing world during unprecedented times,
the vision from the past still stands strong for the future:
‘celebrating all life, challenging all people, dreaming the
new day.’
THE HAMILTON AND ALEXANDRA COLLEGE
Where confident futures begin
The Hamilton and Alexandra College is an independent, co-educational
day and boarding school from Early Learning through to Year 12 located in
Hamilton, in south west Victoria.
Renowned for its academic excellence, world class facilities and extensive
co-curricular opportunities, Principal Dr Andrew Hirst says students at The
Hamilton and Alexandra College have a strong sense of community.
“We focus on helping students to build confident futures. This comes with
teaching values of respect, gratitude, optimism, compassion and resilience,”
said Dr Hirst.
“You can always build on skills and teach knowledge; but character is what
we’re looking for. At The Hamilton and Alexandra College our students excel
in all aspects of school life and help make the school a better place to live
and learn.
“Education is about developing self-esteem. We seek the best for and from
every student and support them to follow their passions,” Dr Hirst explained.
Drawing students from a local radius of more than 200kms – from South
Australia to New South Wales, Melbourne and overseas – the school caters
for over 500 students, including 150 boarders.
The College’s relatively small student cohort and its boarding capabilities are
a key strength, enabling a supportive community focus and more rewarding
relationships between students and teachers. Students are known by their
name and their interests; from aviation to equestrian, music, performance,
art and sport – students are encouraged to follow their dreams.
The Hamilton and Alexandra College offer scholarships each year across
general and academic excellence, boarding and alumni fields, with the
school recognising the value of exploring a range of interests.
ST PAUL’S ANGLICAN GRAMMAR SCHOOL
Why St Paul’s is the school of choice for Gippsland families
At St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School, learning is about more than
just what takes place in the classroom.
Students at St Paul’s are known and highly regarded for their genuine
care and compassion for others and their enthusiasm for all that they
do. Their love for the School is evident in the way they treat each
other, respect their teachers and wholeheartedly contribute to their
wider community.
Having graduates who are such fabulous young people does not
happen by accident. St Paul’s is blessed to have a strong and
supportive parent body, high-quality and committed teachers as
well as students who are fresh and eager to learn. Teachers who
are new to the School often comment that they can “get on with
teaching” rather than having to focus on behaviour management and
addressing students who are disengaged.
When your child joins St Paul’s you can be confident that the positive
learning culture at St Paul’s translates to an environment where
teachers can focus on bringing out the best in every child and where
children understand that they are at school to learn. Classrooms
at every level are notable for the focus shown by the students and
enthusiasm for learning that exists.
From the early years right through to Year 12, St Paul’s encourages
a Growth Mindset and an understanding that with the right attitude
anything is possible. Time and time again the School’s most
successful graduates say that while they may not always have
been the ‘most naturally gifted,’ their hard work and determination
progressed them to where they wanted to go.
As a school that seeks to bring out the best in every child, St Paul’s
also offers a wide range of opportunities both inside and outside the
classroom. Students are offered the opportunity and encouragement
to succeed as they engage in an extensive co-curricular program
of sporting, music, performing arts, personal development, outdoor
education, visual arts and cultural activities along with many
opportunities for academic enrichment and support as necessary.
In addition, secondary students have numerous opportunities to
experience the world. Current programs include service tours to
Rwanda, East Timor and South East Asia, and cultural study tours to
Japan and France.
The Elite Sports Performers Program offered at St Paul’s from Years
7 to 12 currently assists over 60 student athletes to achieve their
sporting dreams while supporting them to achieve at school. The
program provides students with opportunities to develop their sporting
abilities through the involvement of Elite Athlete guest speakers,
a biennial ‘behind the scenes’ AIS Camp and online monitoring of
student athlete wellness and stress levels.
Regional musical students have the opportunity to obtain access to
specialist training and performances along with musical mentoring
opportunities through the St Paul’s Academy of Music. The Academy
provides students with a dedicated focus for the professional
development of their chamber, orchestral and musical skills,
which are enhanced by regular collective, cross-level tutorials and
sectional workshops.
Teachers at St Paul’s understand what it takes to have a student
achieve all of which he or she is capable. As a consequence, St Paul’s
has a proven track record for VCE excellence and an outstanding
record of Tertiary placement for all VCE students regardless of their
ATAR score or area of interest.
St Paul’s was started by local families as a community initiative, was
nurtured by local families and is now very proud to be one of the
leading schools in Regional Australia.
If you are interested in seeing the School in action, please phone the
