"Through the Eucharist, Christ becomes as present in those who have partaken of his Body and Blood as he has the elements themselves. The very presence of God touches the depths of the human soul and visits a part of us that no human being can ever hope to explore. We are God’s. The sacred Eucharistic meal is a celebration of intimacy, the reunion of two loves in constant search of and longing for the other." ~ An excerpt from this week's LPI Gospel reflection

“‘Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food,
and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him...’”
An act of spiritual communion
*this is to be prayed at the time
when we would normally receive communion*
My jesus,
i believe that you are in
the blessed sacrament.
i love you above all things
and i long for you in my soul.
since i cannot now
receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
as though you have already come,
i embrace you and
unite myself entirely to you;
never permit me to be separated from you.
Prayer for Vocation
Loving God, you sent your Spirit on the apostles to continue the
mission of your Son, Jesus. We pray that you will now send your
spirit on our bishops, priests, deacons, sisters and brothers,
filling them with zeal to evangelize your people. We pray for all
that are presently discerning your call, those in vocational formation
and those preparing them. We pray that you bless our diocese
with more priests and deacons, and religious congregations
with new members. Mary our Mother and patroness intercede
for us that our pastoral Needs may be fulfilled through Him who
is Lord for ever and ever.
Amen.

Saint of the Week
St. Joseph Cafasso
(January 15, 1811 – June 23, 1860)
Even as a young man, Joseph loved to attend Mass
and was known for his humility and fervor in prayer.
After his ordination, he was assigned to a seminary in
Turin. There he worked especially against the spirit
of Jansenism — an excessive preoccupation with sin and damnation. He used the works of Saint Francis
de Sales and Saint Alphonsus Liguori to moderate the rigorism popular at the seminary.
Joseph recommended membership in the Secular Franciscan Order to priests. He urged devotion to the
Blessed Sacrament and encouraged daily Communion. In addition to his teaching duties, Joseph was an
excellent preacher, confessor, and retreat master. Noted for his work with condemned prisoners,
he helped many of them die at peace with God.
Joseph urged one of his former pupils — Saint John Bosco — to establish the Salesians congregation
to work with the youth of Turin. Joseph Cafasso died in 1860, and was canonized in 1947.
His Liturgical Feast Day is June 23.
