He has a very pragmaticapproach and what’s nice is, they are 100%independents and they they say it just theway it is, these are his thoughts on our currentsituation and how he is finding variouspeople and businesses reacting to it.For my friends with businesses and astheir own brands:As businesses slowly re-open, they havemade it through most probably the hardesttoughest traumatic experience in theirprofessional and personal careers.And it is still not over yet, there are stillvery stressful times ahead and some willnot survive the fall out of this disaster.For what it is worth and in the hope itmight help some through this time here’ssome tips I can offer. This is a long post,stay with me ;)Let me start with this. In the last 12weeks sitting in lockdown in Bolivia, I havewritten and updated articles for advrider.com.https://advrider.com/?s=michnusBut even before that, I have emailed andcontacted many brands and people forinformation on articles I wrote. An enormousamount, and especially the biggercompanies do not have adequate qualifiedcommunication people and channels tocommunicate with customers. Many donot even reply , whether on social mediaor directly on their site or email. How theystay in business is beyond belief.Communication with your customers isTHE most important part of your business.There is a reason why your customerswant to talk to you. If you do not have thechannels available they will eventuallyjust go buy from your competition. Thereare so many of the bigger businesses thathave virtually no means for contactingthem. This small business can use to theirbenefit. Customers do not want to be justanother number, they are the reason youexist.On social media, and it is called socialmedia for a reason, many of the biggerbrands do not interact with their customers.This only makes customers feel like acash-cow. If you are shy and do not wantto connect with your customers on socialmedia then rather do not have social mediaaccounts. Again this is where smallerbrands can be effective and take businessfrom big operators.Social media is free and allows smalleroperators to compete with the big gunson equal terms. But use it mindfully andactively.Having a website that your mom madethat looks like it came from the age ofdial-up won’t help either. Letting yourprimary school kid run your social mediaaccounts because they know stuff will endin tears.Appointing the secretary to run socialmedia just as a side thing will only makecustomers angry when they ask for infoand she is not able to communicate itproperly and her phone is being occupiedby the toddler. Marketing is a combinedproject, not a by-the-way exercise.Throughout this lockdown, I saw somany small businesses add zero contentto their sites or social media. No, posting aspecial offer product is not communicatingwith your audience. Content and customerinteraction is key!Create blog entries, make video clips ofyour product, reviews, tell people what ishappening in your business. Use your emaillist to keep customers updated on news.There are so many things to use and it doesnot take much money or time.Joe Fleming aka Bonafide Moto Cohas done around 22 live talks with peopleduring this time on Instagram. This workedwell for their small brand.As another example, on this page Icontacted well know Advriders-Overlanders,many of them act as their ownbrands and as tour guides for big companies.Many have never bothered to reply.https://www.pikipikioverland.com/travel-quotes-from-motorcycle-overlanders/Needless to say, I prefer to refer the onesthat did bother to reply.Your business is nothing without customers,make sure they know you are stillhere.
