There are differentrisk factors explained for cardiovascular diseases and diabetesmellitus (DM) is notable among them. There are differentmodalities for diagnosis and risk assessment of cardiovasculardiseases such as myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) but consideringhigh price and low accessibility of this modality we decidedto assess any possible association between MPI findingsand Rose angina score (RAS) in both diabetic and non-diabeticpatients.Materials and methodsIn this descriptive-analytic study we enrolled 585 diabetic andnon-diabetic patients with angina pectoris referred to nuclearmedicine department of Shahid Sadoughi hospital, Yazd, Iranfor MPI. Patients demographic information along with MPI resultsand Rose angina questionnaire were obtained. Data werefinally analyzed using SPSS ver.21 software using appropriatestatistical tests.Resultsin this study, there were 294 diabetic and 291 non diabeticpatients enrolled. 61.9% of non-diabetic patients had normalMPI results but this amount was only 38.8% among diabeticpatients. Our study population did not differ based on age,gender and Rose angina score between diabetic and non-diabeticpatients. Our results indicate that there is a statisticallysignificant association between RAS and MPI findings in bothdiabetic (P-value=0.001) and non-diabetic (P-value=0.001)patients.ConclusionIn present study we found a significant association betweensimple RAS questionnaire and MPI findings. They devotemore than 30% of mortality in developed countries.Cardiovascular diseases cause mortality, morbidity andcomplications which put a heavy economic burden onsociety (1, 2).Different factors are said to be involved in developmentof coronary artery diseases such as gender, ageand genetics which are not adjustable. There are someother factors that can be controlled or even eliminatedsuch as diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension (HTN),obesity, smoking, hyperlipidemia (HLP), psychologicaltension and etc. (3-5).Myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) is one ofnon-invasive diagnostic modalities in field of cardiovascularimaging which can accurately detect ischemiain myocardium(6). In many studies it is said that MPIcan avoid unnecessary economical payments for riskassessment of cardiovascular events(7). Accuracy ofMPI has been reported differently in different investigations(8, 9).During 1993 and 2001 stress cardiovascular imaginghas increased to 3 fold as before. MPI has beenIssue 16.
