Are your goals andobjectives you had back then?Have any beneficiaries or designationschanged? Are thetrustees named still who youwant? If you’ve designateda power-of-attorney (healthand/or proxy), is this still a viableselection? If you’ve stated aguardian or guardians for yourchildren, is the person or personsstill desired? Has anyone’shealth deteriorated so that heor she is now unable to act onyour behalf as you originallyintended?• If you haven’t taken steps toput a will, trust documents,a power-of-attorney, or suchdocuments in place. Now isthe time to get them done• It’s also important that youkeep a list handy in case youare unable to act on your ownbehalf, and let designatedindividuals know where it islocated. Things to include:Estate planning attorney andfinancial professionals yourely on, bank account/safetydeposit box information, titlesto vehicles, home mortgageor title details, credit card information,passwords to anydigital/on-line accounts, passports,birth certificate, SocialSecurity card, etc. This willprevent the state, a court,medical institution or a funeralhome to step in and takecharge.• According to the AmericanMedical Association, 67% ofpeople do not have access totheir healthcare agents whenadmitted to a hospital or emergencyroom. Basic life, health,and emergency plans need tobe accessible to you and yourfamily prior to an emergency.For example, we provide clientswith a wallet card with allof this information for anyone18 and over.You can get these documentsprepared by contacting an estateplanning attorney. Stay healthy,stay safe, and be prepared.Holliston CommunityAction Fund Helps Outin EmergenciesThe Holliston Community Action Fund (HCAF) provides short-term emergencyassistance grants to people who are in financial hardship.Grants are designed to solve a specific problem (energy bill, car repair, medicalcost) that people are having trouble paying due to unfortunate circumstances.All grant applications go through the Department of Youth and Family Services(DYFS) - (Jackie Winer director (508) 429-0620; winerj@holliston.k12.us.ma). To access the town’sonline system, please visit the town’s website at www.townofholliston.us and click on the Online Bills.If you prefer you may use your own bill paying systemthrough your personal banking system to make paymentsto the Town of Holliston. Please make sure that you indicatethe bill number you are paying or the type of paymentyou are making such as “dog license.”For those payments that cannot be paid online, we haveplaced a mailbox on the side entrance to Town Hall thatcontains pens and envelopes that will allow you to placeyour payment into an envelope and mark the applicabledepartment name on the envelope. Please make sure youwrite your name and contact number on the envelopeshould there be any questions regarding the payment enclosed.You may also mail payments to the applicable departmentsat Town Hall.If you need the amount due for a particular bill and donot have access to a computer, please call the Treasurer/Collector’s Office at (508) 429-0602 or Water Departmentat (508) 429-0603 and we will be happy to give you theamount due.Rodman Ride forKids Scheduled forSept. 26thThe Rodman Ride for Kids(rodmanrideforkids.org), whichhas changed to a virtual event,has been rescheduled to Saturday,September 26th. Foundedin 1991, the Rodman Ride forKids is a non-profit organizationthat raises funds for social serviceagencies that support at-riskchildren in Massachusetts. EachFall, they host the Ride for Kidswhich is a 25- or 50-mile noncompetitivecycling tour thattakes place in Foxborough, Mass.About 50 affiliate youthfocusedcharity organizationsparticipate with teams of riders.Riders select the distance theywish to ride, set their fundraisinggoals, and ask their friends andfamily for support.
