Adventures of Spot, Brodie &
“JB” World Paddleboarding
Tour from
Antarctica to Zambia.
Let the Journey Begin........

“Good morning Spot. barked Brodie. Where is JB?”
“I was wondering the same thing buddy, ruffed Spot.
He’s probably out surfing.”
“I wish he would take me surfing with him,” both dogs said
together.
That would be amazing, they both thought. As they lay in the
house dreaming of what a fun adventure that would be.

When “JB” came home from surfing Spot and Brodie were
quick to show him their skills. Thinking that by doing this he
was sure to take them on a surfing adventure.
They hopped on JB’s surfboard, barking with excitement.
Brodie even stood on his hind legs showing his great balance.
They both knew balance was something every great surfer
needed.

Seeing how excited his furry friends were giving “JB”
an idea. “How would you two like to learn
to paddleboard? Paddleboarding is easier and safer
than surfing and we could go on some great
adventurers together.
Spot and Brodie jumped and barked with delight! It’s
just what they imagined, and they could not wait for
the adventures to begin.
“JB” loaded Spot and Brodie in his van and off they
went for their first Lesson on paddleboarding around
the calm waters of Sunset Island…….

Although falling off the paddleboard a few times Spot and Brodie quickly jumped back on the paddleboard
without fear. They were determined to join “JB” on the paddleboard. After hours and weeks of practice both
Spot and Brodie were happy that they both could now safely ride on JB’s paddleboard for hours.
“This is just the best!” barked Spot. “Even better than I thought it would be”, responded Brodie. For years to
come they enjoyed paddling around Sunset Island, until one day while paddling, “JB” had another idea that
being to travel around the world with Spot and Brodie on a World Paddleboard Adventure.

“JB” thought of how amazing it would be to travel the world with Spot and Brodie. Having new adventurers
at some of the world’s most beautiful places.
Their travels would take them around the world from Antarctica to Zambia. The three friends would
travel the world by boat, plane, train, bus, van and most importantly paddleboard. So after several months of
mapping out their journey Spot, Brodie and “JB” started their adventure by paddling 26 miles to their 1st
destination Catalina Island. The World Paddleboard Tour Adventure had begun. After spending the night in
Catalina they took the one hour trip on the Catalina Express Boat to Long Beach. “JB’s best friend
Sandy Sunset drove “JB” Spot and Brodie to the Airport in his Woody Station wagon with the paddleboard in
tow for their 6 hour and 47 minute flight from Los Angeles to Buffalo-Niagara International Airport to
continue their journey to paddleboard in the waters above and below the Niagra Falls in upstate New York.
Spot, Brodie and “JB” left
Sunset Island and off they went
to travel around the world. Their
friend Dusty wished them farewell.

Niagara Falls, Upstate New York , USA
An estimated 5,000 bodies were found at the foot of the falls between 1850 and 2011. Never
attempt to challenge going over the Falls as most likely you will not survive.
Adventure Facts:
3,160 tons of water flows over
Niagara Falls every second
falling 167 feet
Professional baseball player Ed
Delahanty was killed over the
falls in 1903 after falling from a
nearby train bridge after he was
kicked off a train for disorderly
conduct.
In 1995 Robert Overacker went
over the falls in a Jet Ski with a
rocket-propelled parachute. The
parachute didn’t open and he
plunged to his death.
JB’s Journal
Ater landing In Buffalo we rented a Van for our 20 mile drive to Niagara Falls and checked into a Motel for a nights rest before our
planned paddleboard experience near the falls. We could hear the falls from the open window of our motel room.
The roaring sounds of the water tumbling over the falls was so loud Spot, Brodie and myself had to wear earplugs as we entered the water
the next morning. As we paddled closer to the edge of the Falls I saw that the tourists looking on were getting a bit scared. I was getting a
bit nervous myself, but I tried not to let it show. Luckily I paddled as fast as I could and we drifted safely away from the edge of the falls.
We decided it would be better to enjoy the falls from below. The water was smoother and easier to navigate and the scenery was
beautiful. It was breathtaking watching the mass amounts of water cascading over the edge of the Falls. Spot and Brodie loved
splashing in the cool shallow water on the shoreline away from the cascading falls. What a way to start our World Paddleboard
Adventure Tour. If you ever visit the Falls be careful although beautiful, they are extremely dangerous.

Statue of Liberty, New York, NY USA
Adventure Fact:
If the Statue of Liberty wore
shoes, they would be a size 879!
JB’s Journal:
Paddleboarding by the Statue of Liberty sure makes you feel small., It was a bit windy on the Atlantic Ocean but worth it. Spot
and Brodie each barked at the Statue to show their respect. I took off my hat and gave a thumbs up for all the
liberty and freedoms we enjoy in the USA. After paddling for a few hours we took the time to explore some sites in New York
City. NY is the largest city in the USA with a population of over 8 million people. We really enjoyed walking through Central
Park and saw hundreds of Dogs. New Yorkers love their pooches. We stared in awe at the Empire State Building and paid our
respect at World Trade Center Memorial. At night the bright lights of Time Square was something to see along with all the Taxis
and cars packed on the city streets. NY aka as the “The Big Apple” was exciting to say the least.
Spot And Brodie seemed to enjoy the sights and smells of the Big City. We were disappointed that we could not see the
Yankees play. Sign said “no dogs allowed” at Yankee Stadium.

Swamplands, Florida Everglades
Adventure Fact:
Florida is the southernmost
state in the continental United
States. The 22nd largest and
3rd most populated state in the
USA.
JB’s Journal:
This part of our adventure got a little scary as I had to try my hardest to avoid the alligators,
snakes and crocodiles as we paddled through the Everglades. Spot got terribly upset and barked
Swamplands, Florida Everglades
Murky waters we held on for dear life as we crossed by many cocodiles
and deadly snakes
every time she saw a crocodile or something move in the water. Brodie kept calm and we made
our way through the swampy water. After our paddle we went to visit an alligator farm. I got to
hug an alligator! Spot and Brodie were not interested in doing that at all. We met a local there who
told us lots about the Sunshine State. It was so much fun!

Venice Canals, Italy, Europe
Adventure Facts:
The Rialto Bridge in the picture
is the oldest of the 4 bridges that
span the Grand Canal in Venice.
The population of Venice has decreased
from 120,000 to 60,000
in the last 50 years. Some experts
believe Venice could be a ghost
town by 2030 with only tourists
visiting by day.
There are about 350 gondolas
and 400 gondolieri in Venice. On
average, gondolas are 11 meters
long and weigh around 600 kilos.
JB’s Journal
Ciao! Or hello from Venice, Italy. Today we paddleboarded alongside the famous singing gondoliers as
we made our way past gondolas and beautiful Italian architecture. After paddleboarding we had worked
up quite an appetite. I met some new Italian friends gondoliers Lorenzo and Mattia, and they invited us
out for some pizza. Spot and Brodie were very excited to meet a new dog friend as well, an Italian
Greyhound named Bellissimo. We learned that Bellissimo means incredibly beautiful in Italian. Sofia who
was guiding us around Venice explained to us that Rome is the capital city in Italy, soccer is the most
popular sport in Italy, Italians love family gatherings and that over 60 million people live in the beautiful
country of Italy. Today was a long fun day. Time for bed, goodnight or Buona Notte in Italian.

Taj Mahal, India
Adventure Facts:
The Taj Mahal is also known as
the Crown of the Palace and is
made entirely of white ivory
marble. It took 22 years to build.
Sick with grief, Shah Jahan was
first inspired to build the Taj Mahal
after his third wife,
Mumtaz Mahal, died while giving
birth to their 14th child. His wife
was in labor for 30 hours before
she died at age 40.
Over 1,000 elephants were used
to transport heavy materials and
supplies for construction.
JB’s Journal
The people of India welcomed us to their country and allowed us to paddleboard in the enormous water
pool outside the Taj Mahal. It took us only 10 minutes to paddleboard the length of the pool. We had tea after
our paddle with our guide Ramesh who wanted a paddleboard lesson. He fell off the board but after several
attempts he was able to stand up and paddle very well.
Ramesh told us that the Taj Mahal is known and famous as one of the 7 Wonders of the World and was built in
1631. He also mentioned India is home to 1.3 billion people, second only to China as the most populated country
in the world.

Antarctica
Adventure Fact: The coldest
temperature ever recorded on
Earth was minus 128.56 degrees
Fahrenheit (minus 89.2
degrees Celsius), registered on
July 21, 1983, at Antarctica’s
Vostok station.
JB’s Journal:
I knew it would be cold here, but I didn’t expect this. It was the coldest Spot, Brodie and I have ever
been. But it was also one of the most beautiful and serene settings. Brodie and Spot got to try out
their winter wetsuits as we paddled along past icebergs and King and Emperor penguins. They were so
funny to watch sliding on the ice and into the water. Spot and Brodie of course gave them a few barks
to say hello, as well as the seals and whales that swam around us.

SAVANNAH, AFRICA
Adventure Fact:
Africa is home to a group of animals known
as The Big 5. Those animals are the lion,
the black rhinoceros, the elephant, the
leopard, and the cape buffalo.
JB’s Journal:
The first thing that got our attention in Africa was the tremendous amount of animals here. We saw giraffes,
lions, elephants, hippos and zebra before we even started our paddleboard adventure. Emmanuel, our tour guide
took us on a ride through the savannah to find a calm body of water to paddle in.
Spot and Brodie were fascinated with all the animals they had only seen before on TV. We learned the herd of African
Elephants we saw can weigh up to 6000 kg (6.6 tons) and measure up to 3.3 m (10 ft.) at the shoulder. The African elephant
is the world’s largest land mammal. The best part of our adventure was paddling alongside a herd of wild zebras.
The scariest part was making sure Spot and Brodie never left my side since the Hungry Lions and Tigers would have not been
too friendly to the dogs. We were in their territory and we had to respect that. Thankfully the dogs sensed it would not be safe to
wander out on their own. Africa we learned is the source of the Worlds Largest River the Nile and if we had more time
we thought of paddling it 4,258 miles in Length.

Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, California
JB’s Journal:
What a sight the bridge was in all it’s glory that day we
paddled in the waters below. As a Californian I had
driven over this bridge many times but had never seen it from
below. The bridge is a landmark of the San Francisco Bay region.
After our 4-hour paddle as we were resting on the shore admiring
the bridge a local named Tony gave us some history on the bridge.
It was completed in 1937. It was at one time the longest suspension
bridge in the world. Tony invited us to join him for dinner to
another landmark, Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39, where we
found a pooch friendly restaurant with an outdoor patio and
enjoyed Fresh Fish with “Rice 0 Roni “ the San Francisco treat .
After dinner we rode the famous Trolley Cable Cars through the
hilly streets of San Francisco..

San Francisco International Airport
JB’s Journal:
After a fun experience in
San Francisco, especially the ride on a
very kind to us and took us to dinner for Tom Yum Going, spicy shrimp soup. The next day we went on
an exciting jeep ride through the forest.

Great Wall, China
JB’s Journal
With some help from the Chinese Government we were
able to paddleboard inside the walls. Our Guide Wang
Xiu Ying explained to us the average height of the wall is
20 -23 feet high and the wall is 2700 years old. Wang was
proud to tell us the wall attracts 50 million visitors a year.
He also said that only 1/3 of the original wall still exists.
China has a population of 1.393 Billion People and
paddleboarding is a growing recreational activity in China.
In China some people paddleboard to go to work.
Wang took us out to lunch for rice, duck and soup. The
duck tasted a bit buttery. I ate with chopsticks while Spot
and Brodie could not figure out the chopsticks and ate
out of a bowl enjoying scraps of chicken for lunch.
completed in 2560 BC and stands
over 480 feet tall (147 meters).
JB’s Journal
No water to paddle nearby the Pyramids. We were able to hire a
Camel from his owner Amen to pull us over the rocks near the
pyramids. It took 20 years to build the Great pyramid of Giza. It was
the tallest man-made structure in the world for about 3,800 years.
The Pyramids required 2.5 million stone blocks to be cut, moved and
positioned. After a long day climbing the pyramids we were very
thirsty and spent the night in a tent outside the pyramid. Spot spotted
a large Cobra snake. It scared us all but luckily the snake did not enter
our tent. We drank lots for water under the Hot Egyptian sun to stay
hydrated.

beaches. Spot, Brodie and myself admired and
Back in the USA we were invited to be in the Pasadena Tournament of
Roses Parade. This was a huge honor! The parade was started in 1890
and included music, performers and elaborate floats. We made it over the
5 mile route thanks to the skateboard wheels I was able to mount under
the paddleboard decorated with flowers. Spot and Brodie barked kindly
to the thousands of people who waved to us as we paddled the parade
route. The 2 hour paddle was tiring but we but we had a great time and
were treated to a wonderful lunch at the end of parade and met lots of
people from around the world.

Disneyland, Anaheim, California
We enjoyed visiting the Magic
Kingdom and paddling through
the whales open mouth on the
Storybook Canals Ride. Our last
paddle was in the waterways on
the Jungle Boat Cruise. We almost
fell off the paddleboard laughing
so hard at the Skipper of the Boat
whose sense of humor was very
entertaining. We made it through a
waterfall but got soaked. Spot was
very upset. As we drove home
we realized the adventure we had
started a year ago was now
ending. Spot and Brodie wagged
their tails knowing that they were
part of a fun adventure. We were
