Monkwood DIY Desk Coloring Book

This is a preview of the upcoming Monkwood DIY Desk that you can use to visualize how you want yours to look like in the end. Then, when the plans are released this summer you will have a solid mental picture to create with. As a maker of professional studio desks for over 10 years I have found that pre-visualization is a key element to making the building process smoother and more enjoyable. It also helps the end product immensely. Plus, its way easier to experiment on the page and see what doesn't work first. Its will save you time, stress and money in the long run. So pretend your a kid again and color it in with an open mind. You can even have some current kids help you out. Their ideas might be even better than yours. Either way, don't miss this important step of the building process. You'll thank yourself later for doing it. Happy Coloring, Monk Monkwoodstudio.com Instagram.com/monkwood_

Monkwood DIY Desk
Coloring Book
Designed by Brandon Monk Muñoz

(welcome)
Dear Desk Maker,
I designed this DIY desk to be affordable, not cheap. Beautiful, but not ornate. It is solid yet subtle, with all
those delicate details you will add to it - both in the making of it and in the years of use you will get out of it.
These are some strange times indeed. We are asking big questions about the world and our future within it.
It’s a season to count your losses as well as your blessings, while taking an honest inventory of all the value you
still possess. You can use this time to cultivate your own peculiar alchemy of skills and experiences that make
you exactly who you are - then take decisive action.
Why not start your next chapter by doing that thing you’ve always wanted to?
I have no idea what your thing is, but I know exactly what it feels like to find it.
All of my premium studio desks are based on ideas I discovered as a teenager in my bedroom 4 track cassette
studio. I used whatever hand me down desk I had at the time and hacked the hell out of it to make it do what
I needed. It wasn’t always pretty, but somehow, it worked. I have since built over 200 custom desks for
creative professionals, artists and musicians around the world. I’ve applied all the lessons I’ve learned this into
this DIY design, so you can have the fluid workflow experience that my clients enjoy.
Whether you plan to make music, edit videos, work from home, start your own business, write a book, study
for finals, shoot some emails or all of the above - a desk can be a place to focus your intentions and turn your
lofty daydreams into tangible realities. A studio desk won’t save your life, but with a little clarified motivation
and some patient hard work, it can definitely help to change it.
Creating a space to do your thing and be able to pick up wherever you left off will allow you to get some
serious traction in your craft. It is now possible for a teenager with some basic gear to create what once took
teams of people with rooms full of equipment to accomplish. This is why I make home studio desks.
Because who knows where the next Prince will come from?
Please use this little preview ‘coloring book’ to freely dream like a wild-eyed child. Picture precisely how you
want your desk to look and feel. Build it exactly how you want in your mind. Look at it from every angle of
your imagination. Then, when it comes time to construct it, you’re simply dealing with the how’s - because all
the why’s and what’s have already been decided - by you.
I recommend colored pencils or crayons for coloring in the pages. Use a standard #2 pencil or ink pen to add
your own details to the images. Drawing skills are not required. All you need are your own crazy ideas. Trust
me, it’s way better to see if a deep purple desk with smokey black bases actually looks cool on paper before
applying the first coat. Cause you never know, I just might look incredible.
I believe you are capable of doing great things on this earth, no matter who you are or where you’re from.
Let’s make something awesome together…
Sincerely,
Monk

(dimensions)
- optional 2-4U rack spaces using 2x4, 2x6 or 2x8 material for partitions
- 88key expansion, drawer and cabinet options to come in future editions…
Don’t worry if all your equipment doesn’t fit within this set of specs.
The design is flexible and can be adjusted for different workflows with some ingenuity.
There will be expansion and upgrade options available in future editions as the design evolves…

(perspective)
Color in and draw the gear you have or wanna have one day.
Maybe you prefer a drawer or two, with your favorite rack gear in the middle?
Why not add some of your future awards on the top shelf? Either way, its a open book…

(side view)
Color and draw yourself here.
There you are, in your chair, leaning in with all your gear and your favorite snack - doing what you do best.
(A stick figure or Simpsons version of yourself will do just fine.)

(fly’s eye view)
If you were a fly on the wall of your studio - what would you see yourself doing right here?

(behind the scenes)
Color and draw that face you make when you’re doing what you love.
The hidden storage shelf is there to help keep your floor clean and your mind free
from unnecessary visual distractions. So scribble a big crazy mess inside of it. Thats what it’s there for.

(giant robot for scale)
There are no limits to what you can create except for those imposed upon you by your own mind.
Your imagination can become your enemy, transforming your smallest fears into violent giants.
Just remember, it’s here to help you build a better future for yourself and for others.
The world is waiting to see what you create. Keep it simple. Make it real…
