COMMUNITY CARE
Post Holdings made a significant donation
to Operation Food Search [OFS],
a nonprofit hunger relief organization,
for its COVID-19 Emergency Response
Plan that provides free meal distribution
to children and families who need food
assistance. The donation funds emergency
food packs that OFS creates for community
partners including St. Louis Public Schools
and St. Louis County Library branches.
OFS currently distributes
approximately 2,385
bags per week to select
school locations, as well
as nearly 1,700 packs per
week at various library and
community centers. OFS
started its Summer Food
Service Program at the end
of March to accommodate
children while schools are
out.

To honor teachers who
have worked through the
COVID-19 pandemic,
WGU Missouri is awarding $15,000 in
grants to K-12 teachers across the state
through its ‘Fund My Classroom’ initiative.
The grants will help fund a variety of
innovative classroom projects. Additionally,
WGU Missouri is offering $50,000
in scholarships to teachers and aspiring
teachers looking to further their education.
WGU Missouri is a competency-based,
online university created to expand access
to higher education for Missouri residents.

Assistance League of St. Louis in
Ellisville has teamed up with the Urban
League of Metropolitan St. Louis to help
underserved families during the COVID-
19 pandemic. Urban League has hosted
drive-through giveaways at locations in
the city of St. Louis and Metro East since
Jane Harbron, president of Assistance League of St. Louis,
poses with 1,500 new books that will be distributed to children
in need.

early April to give out food and cleaning
supplies to families. Along with the books,
Assistance League delivered toys donated
by Barnes & Noble of West County, 100
hygiene kits, and professional clothing for
women and men entering the job market.
Later this summer, Urban League will be
conducting a version of its annual Back
to School Expo, where Assistance League
will be supplying over 3,000 books for
children in attendance.

Dierbergs Markets launched a new
online donation program this week to support
Operation Food Search. Donations
made to the new Virtual Pantry, accessible
on dierbergs.com/ofs, will be used to
purchase groceries with Dierbergs buying
power to ship directly to Operation Food
Search for distribution. The current donation
period is scheduled to run until June 7.

David Palatnik and Dafna Revah,
local owners of CBD Kratom, the largest
independent CBD company in the United
States based in St. Louis, recently won
Greenway Magazine’s awards for Fastest
Growing CBD Company and Best CBD
Store. CBD Kratom has over 14 locations
across the St. Louis area, including stores
in Ellisville and Creve Coeur.

Local chef Nick Bognar of iNDO has
been named a 2020 FOOD & WINE Best
New Chef. Bognar is one of ten chefs in
the nation to receive the accolade. Bognar
grew up in Ballwin working at his mother’s
restaurants, Nippon Tei and Ramen
Tei, before attending culinary school. He
opened iNDO, a modern restaurant with
Japanese, Thai, and Southeast Asian cuisine
in June of 2019 and was nominated
by the James Beard Foundation as Rising
Star Chef of the Year twice and iNDO was
nominated for Best New Restaurant in
2020. iNDO was also included in GQ magazine’s
Best New Restaurants of 2020 list.

Lola & Penelope’s has moved from
its Clayton location to 161 Lamp and
Lantern Village in Town & Country.
The pet boutique and wellness center
focuses on the latest in pet apparel,
travel products, and walking gear. Pet
food, treat, toys and grooming services

The latest Walnut Grill location
opened for business in Chesterfield
Valley, despite the challenges associated
with operating a restaurant amid COVID-
19 precautions. The new restaurant, the
fourth of the locally owned company,
is located at 17392 Chesterfield Airport
Road. As with the Ellisville and Sunset
Hills locations, the Chesterfield location
is open for carry-out and delivery service.
CHAMBER RESOURCES
The West St. Louis County Chamber of
Commerce continues its Business Webinar
Speaker Series at 1 p.m. on Tuesday,
May 26. The featured speaker is Meredith
McVehil, Ramsey Preferred Money Coach.
McVehil will speak on “Financial Wellness
in the Workplace: A Message of Hope.”
She will teach on what trusted leaders can
do for their employees to teach them solid
money management in these uncertain
times. The meeting will be conducted via
Zoom; individuals will receive login credentials
upon registration. The event is free
and open to members and non-members.
