Wemadethispieceasathankyoutoallourcolleagues,partnersandfriends.Wedesignedasmallpuzzlemadeoftwomaterials,withnotasinglepieceidentical.Complexpatternsofthepiecesbringintricatevisualityanddemonstratethewayweworkwithshapesandmaterials.Wedevelopedadesignprocessconsistingofasetofrulesandinputparametersgeneratingashape.Theresultofsuchprocessisnotjustoneform,butaseries,afamilyofsimilarforms.ThisideawasnamedanObjectileandwasthoroughlydiscussedin1980’s.UsingcomputationaltechniquesweturnedtheObjectileinto500uniquepiecesofvariousmaterialsthatcanbeassembledinmilionsofcombinations.„ObjectileisaconceptcreatedbyBernardCacheandfurtherdevelopedbyGillesDeleuzeinTheFold(1988).Itisanewdefinitionoftheobject,nolongerthoughtofashavinganessentialordefinitiveform,butratheronethatisamathematicalfunctionthattakesitsplacewithina“continuumthroughvariation.”¹¹BernardCache,PatrickBeaucé-ObjectileSubdigital/Architecture&productdesign/Puzzle61

theObjectileinto500uniquepiecesof

variousmaterialsthatcanbe

assembledinmilionsofcombinations.
