The measuring principle
Dimension measurement
Our camera-based laser triangulation gauge is the first ever
inspection system to assure gapless 360° measurements
of round and oval contours. While conventional axis-based
measurements using the shadowing method (see illustration)
cover only six single points, the optical sensors of AllRoun-
Dia DV capture 4 million pixels. This makes the difference
because each individual point can be decisive for the quality
of a product. While the single-point method measures each
single point highly accurately, it does not capture the area
between the points and detects only defects of relatively large
topographic extension (lumps). In contrast, AllRounDia DV
guarantees that each and every point is inspected with the
same high accuracy and repeatability of 0.01% FOV.
Surface inspection
AllRounDia DV continuously checks not only the contour for
any deviations from the target, but the entire surface area.
The PIXARGUS system employs LED lighting, no laser light,
as comparable systems do. The specially developed lighting
concept assures that the field of vision and the measuring field
are perfectly homogeneously lit. Precisely for this reason, even
difficult to detect irregularities and flaws in the material, such
as fissures, inclusions, flecks and other high-contrast defects
from a size of only 0.1 mm, are reliably captured.

The 7th system generation developed by measuring
technology experts PIXARGUS sets benchmarks in
automated quality inspection of extruded products.
ProfilControl 7 is the first system to combine
360° dimension measurement and 100% surface
inspection within one single sensor unit. By applying
multi-zone scanning, PIXARGUS is entering entirely
new spheres of vision. Several measuring and testing
tasks can be performed simultaneously thanks to
virtual camera functions implemented by PIXARGUS.
This takes data precision and defect analysis
performance to the next level.
By combining both LED and laser technology within
the camera’s field of view, the lighting concept opens
up new possibilities of measurement. Thanks to its
compact design and innovative assistance features, the
system is quickly set up and ready for use as a flexible
inline system providing reliable measuring data during
the start of a line and throughout the entire production
campaign.

All this is based on an image processing technology developed by PIXARGUS, which uses innovative camera sensors, special
illumination units and a highly flexible application software – maximizing the usefulness and flexibility in any application.
Looking at things from a different angle shows them in a different light.
This is why ProfilControl 7 Surface now uses up to 8 high-capacity multi-camera
sensors as standard, ensuring that every tiny angle of an extruded product is
most efficiently scanned and checked. The system processes up to
800 million pixels per second using highly sophisticated image
processing algorithms which allow each and every defect
to be detected in real time during running production –
even if the profiles are extremely complex.
How exactly does this work? The product
runs through the sensor head. As soon as
the system detects a defect, it indicates
the defect on a graphic display and
triggers a corresponding signal for
the marking system, the sawing
equipment or the sorting devices
– guaranteeing that only
product fully compliant with
specifications is shipped to
the customers.

360° geometry measurement
High-precision optics and sophisticated algorithms allow ProfilControl 7 Dimension to handle profile geometries of any kind and complexity
and measure distances, angles, radii and combinations thereof through 360° of the product in real time. The system immediately
indicates any most minute deviation from the reference contour – before out-of-spec limits are reached. This allows the operators to
most effectively control and optimize the production process.
Precision means leaving nothing to chance.
A specially developed calibration of the laser-camera system forms the basis for
maximum precision and excellent measuring results. The system projects a straight,
extremely sharp laser light line onto the product, the entire circumference of which is
continuously inspected by 8 high-capacity cameras. With this technological solution it is
possible now to also capture and measure those areas of the profile which previous systems
were unable to inspect with sufficient accuracy. PIXARGUS achieves a measuring
tolerance better than +/-10 µm, which for specific applications may be even further improved.
Deviations from the reference profile
The system is extremely easy to operate and parameter setting for new
profiles is very convenient. A multi-touch-capable display and a user-friendly
editor are provided to define the reference contours. The display of results is
color-coded. Green indicates production within tolerance, yellow warns that
production is getting close to a tolerance limit and red signals out-of-spec
production. Thus the operators see at a glance any deviation of the process,
allowing them to take immediate corrective measures as required.

inspected by up to 8 high-capacity cameras. The contour, distances, angles, radii, etc of any,

as single pieces. The medium-sized company is a global
“hidden champion” in optical inline quality inspection.
Worldwide all major manufacturers of automotive rubber
profiles use PIXARGUS systems for surface inspection and
profile measurements. PIXARGUS is based in Würselen near
Aachen/Germany. The company is active worldwide through

An amazingly fast, high-performance and 100% reliable system that detects smallest
irregularities such as weaving flaws and faulty stitches, dense spots, cracks, scratches and
holes, even in heavily textured materials. This minimizes waste and guarantees that only
flawless material is processed.

Thanks to the innovative array design of the sensor head, web
widths of up to 3,500 mm can be flexibly handled as standard.
Thus WebControl S achieves an unrivalled scalability. The choice
of material makes the system perfectly suited for continuous
operation under harsh production conditions
The high-power LED lighting element provides for an optimally
and uniformly lit measuring field and ensures excellent measuring
and inspection results. Structural irregularities/material
defects (specks, pores, scratches, cracks or grooves ...), which
were not detectable in the past, can now be immediately captured
and processed by the camera sensors.
“Tailor-made” stainless steel cabinet accommodating all integrated
computer and electrical components. Newly developed,
intuitive Pixargus Human Machine Interface with optimized
graphical display: Multi-touch functionality for moving objects
across the screen and zooming in and out by two-finger gestures.
All functions controllable via MultiTouch panel. The new Web-
Control S software demonstrates how intelligent “machine vision”
works: MultiArea, now allowing as many fields of view as desired
to be set per camera; the new autofocus reduces set-up times;
the coating check function is very important for webs in automotive
applications; Defect Density Management (DDM)
– and much more!
Pixargus Datamaster 4.0 available as an option. Needless to say
that Excel ® export functions are provided for data evaluation.
