The much-anticipated
Case IH Maxxum
with the dual-clutch
ActiveDrive8 transmission
has arrived in Australia
and New Zealand
The ActiveDrive 8-equipped Maxxum is the company’s new
three-range, eight-speed powershift transmission featuring
double-clutch technology.
The Case IH Maxxum series is the first Case IH t actor to offer
the ActiveDrive 8 technology and was the model that won the
prestigious Tractor of the Year award at EIMA conference 2018.
Case IH ANZ product manager for mid horsepower and
compact tractors Seamus McCarthy says there are significant
benefits with the Maxxum Multicontroller with ActiveDrive 8
transmission.
“At its heart, we’re talking about enhanced efficiency and ease
of use – this makes the tractor so easy to drive and operate at
its optimum level,” McCarthy says.
“With ActiveDrive 8, the transmission automatically selects the
right gear, not just the next gear, when the operator requests
more or less ground speed.
“This is a new technology that offers customers a step up from
the powershift option, and at the same time gives them a taste
of our state-of-the-art CVT transmission option,” he adds.
Mechanically speaking, the transmission has three ranges and
a total of 24 speeds in both forwards and reverse. Case IH says
the double-clutch technology results in less torque interruption,
while pedal clutching is not necessary for range changes,
making it more suited for power-hungry tasks where momentum
is important.
McCarthy says the Maxxum Multicontroller offers the usability,
efficiency and di ect-drive feel seen in powershift transmissions
and now enhanced with features like Brake to Clutch, APM, auto
road/field modes and smooth shift
“With these features – and more – this mid-sized tractor makes
a perfect fit for livestock producers that expect a little mo e out
of their tractor, row-crop farmers and mixed farming enterprises
looking for something that can be utilised for a wide range of
their on-farm machinery needs,” he adds.
Another of these optional features is an auto-clutch, allowing
the operator to stop at the press of the brake pedal, and then
resume the previous speed once the brake is released.
The first of the new Maxxum models with the ActiveDrive 8
transmission is available to order now.

Agco has dropped a Valtra
model from its Australian
lineup as it makes a series of
model upgrades across the
Valtra and Massey Ferguson
marques
Valtra will no longer distribute the T144 model tractor in
Australia and New Zealand as it responds to Stage V
emissions regulations coming into force in Europe.
But the Agco brand will introduce new models – the Tier 3
(non SCR) T154, T174E, T194 and T234 models with Powershift
transmissions, each of which have either a 6.6L of 7.4L sixcylinder
engine.
All Valtra models will also have a new slimline exhaust past the
A-pillar thanks to a new after-treatment system located under
the right corner of the cabin.
The change will be introduced on the 4.9L N4 series tractors,
with the latest N134, N154 and N174 models being fitted with a
single airbag version of the Aires pneumatic front suspension –
a dual airbag version being installed on the T series.
The lower spec Hitech and Active variants can now be
optioned with an auxiliary SmartTouch ISOBUS terminal, which
also has a front linkage position display – useful for ground
engaging work.
Models in Valtra’s S4 range – the marque’s highest horsepower
offering – will also come with a new after-treatment system
located under the right side of the cab, at the expense of a fuel
tank on that side.
This means the left-side fuel tank has had to be redesigned to
make up for the missing fuel capacity, bringing with it new stairs
and a handrail, a more accessible toolbox and a new battery box.
Valtra continues to offer the S4 with the option of a nonselective
catalytic reduction Tier 2 engine. It uses an older
version of the turbocharging system and does not produce the
additional 30hp (22kW) of boost that the Stage V engine does.
Some similar changes have been announced in Massey
Ferguson’s 7614 and 8700S range, with an upgraded hydraulics
system on the Tier 2 MF 8700S offering a linkage lift capacity of
12,000kg.
The 8700S’s 3.1m wheelbase gives it stability and traction,
while its 11.5m turning circle enables it to operate efficiently
in headlands and its curved chassis and low bonnet help to
improve visibility.
A new Datatronic 5 touchscreen terminal in the cabin has
tractor, guidance, ISOBUS and camera functions and the
ergonomic Multipad controller makes it easy to operate.
With a carrying capacity of 16.5 tonnes, the new 8700S also
has a redesigned 660L fuel tank, 16 LED work lights, rubbercovered
steps leading to the cab and a removable toolbox
integrated to the top of the fuel tank.
Changes to the MF 7614 include introducing a Dyna-6
transmission as standard, enabling it to reach a top speed of
40km/h, a heavy-duty rear linkage able to lift 8,300kg and a
heavy duty 10-stud bar axle for precise track settings.
