ROYALS CAPTAIN
Jeffery Oh Yong Jie
1. How was your journey this year
as captain?
This year was a special year for me. As a
final year student, taking up a Captain's
role may be deemed foolish. However, in
order to keep royals alive, I took up the
responsibility. This journey was exceptionally
hard this season with many downs
faced. We started the year with one of my
vice-captains leaving Hall due to personal
reasons and a few months on, we have our
second vice-captain tearing his ACL. After
which, I was starting to head a team alone
with loads to settle. As we moved on to
recruitment, Hall 8 was down to 3 Halls
with 7 guys per clan for FOC. This has severely
affected our recruitment especially
when royals isn’t to most spectacular activity
to join in Hall after all. Follow which,
what we predicted came true – Royals had
more girls than guys joining this season.
With numbers being smaller than 15, we
had the mindset that we wouldn’t be able
to compete this season.
However, we continued to train till the
next obstacle – SAO ban. With an unforeseen
ban from SAO, our training came to
a halt. No trainings but loads of meetings
with SAO has led us to push for combined
Halls and there was where my journey became
brighter.
Together with Hall 1, we formed Rosus and
it was the best decision made this season.
Even with more administrative obstacles
along the way, we managed to push on and
gave our best on IHCC with just 2 months
to train.
Clinching 6th position was a success especially
with a team where 70% of the members
were freshies. Together with Hall 1,
we built a family. They are the reason why I
am willing to give my all and push through.
Together, Rosus is strong. So, even with all
these obstacles along the way, did I regret
taking up the position? Nope, especially
with this solid team right here. Do watch
us as royals is sending a team to this year’s
asia competition in April! (ACIC 2020)
2. Anyone you’d like to show
gratitude to?
There are 3 groups that I would like to
show my gratitude to.
Firstly, I would like to show my gratitude to
my coaches. (Jiehui and Guojun) these two
were Hall 8 Alumnus that took their time
to guide and coach us, even though we are
mostly still fresh cheerleaders. Their patience
is something I can never understand
and therefore, our success this season will
not be possible without their guidance.
Secondly, I would like to show my gratitude
to my brother from another mother, din
from Hall 1. As the Co-captain for this season,
we grew a bond unlike others. We cov
ered one another’s back when we needed
help, and this is the reason why things can
go smoothly. Without his help, I would have
drowned myself with the workload above
my part-time work and schoolwork.
Lastly, I would like to show my gratitude
to my ex captain and girlfriend. Without
her guidance on the various things to do
on and off mats, I wouldn’t have been able
to do all the backend and frontend work
smoothly.
Thank you all!!
