They are based on errors in the processing of information fromoptical impressions or misinterpretations of visual stimuli and are thereforealso described as perceptual delusions of the visual sense. illusions depicted on the two new stamps from the special postagestamp series of the same name fool the viewer in different but differentways. The optical illusion Two Shades of Gray? is called the CornsweetIllusion after the American experimental psychologist Tom NormanCornsweet (1929-2017) and is an example of the relativity of color andbrightness perception. There is an optical illusion if the subjectively seendoes not match the objectively measurable reality. Is that the motif of thestamp two shades of gray? the case: the viewer does not see what is actuallythere.The Free Square on the stamp?
