EAST –WEST TALENT LAB

goEast fördert junge Filmschaffende und Kreative aus Mittel- und Osteuropa, und vernetzt sie mit Gleichgesinnten aus Deutschland. In Zeiten von Social Distancing, Reisebeschränkungen, geschlossenen Kinos und Veranstaltungsverboten wird goEast das East-West Talent Lab virtuell durchführen. Für die rund dreißig Teilnehmer/innen wurde ein vielseitiges Fortbildungsangebot konzipiert, das sich online umsetzen lässt. Die jungen Talente kommen u.a. aus Albanien, Aserbaidschan, Kasachstan, Kosovo, Kroatien, Rumänien, Russland, Slowakei, Tschechische Republik, Ukraine und Ungarn. Bei zahlreichen Events haben die Labteilnehmer/innen die Gelegenheit zum Austausch und Networking. Sie treffen auf Branchenvertreter/innen, können ihre Projektideen vorstellen und Partner/innen für Koproduktionen finden. Neben einem Vortrag zur Förderung von Koproduktionen in Europa gibt es auch eine Case-Study zu einem aktuellen Wettbewerbsbeitrag aus mehreren Ländern. Der tschechische Schauspieler, Regisseur und Produzent Václav Marhoul spricht in einer Masterclass über seinen Werdegang und sein letztes Werk THE PAINTED BIRD. Besondere Schwerpunkte in diesem Jahr sind Ethik im Umgang mit Schauspieler/innen sowie die Produktion von Serien. goEast bietet den Teilnehmer/innen neben einem Pitching-Workshop und Mentoring in der Projektentwicklung auch die Möglichkeit, Einzeltermine mit einer Projektleiterin von Eurimages und Redakteur/innen von 3sat und ARTE wahrzunehmen. Project Market Pitch Die Teilnehmer/innen des East-West Talent Lab präsentieren vor Publikum und einer dreiköpfigen Fachjury ihre 15 ausgewählten Projektideen aus den Bereichen Kurzspiel- und Experimentalfilm, Videokunst sowie kurzer und abendfüllender Dokumentarfilm. Die jungen Talente kommen aus Mittel- und Osteuropa sowie Deutschland. Der jeweilige Pitch dauert fünf Minuten, dem schließt sich ein direktes Feedback der Fachjury an, die dieses Jahr aus der Redakteurin Jutta Krug (WDR/ARTE), der Produzentin und Autorin Ira Tondowski und dem Spielfilmproduzenten Kirill Krasovski besteht. Der beste Pitch gewinnt den mit 3.500 Euro dotierten und seit 2014 vergebenen goEast Development Award. Die Jury vergibt ebenfalls das Renovabis-Recherchestipendium in Höhe von 3.500 Euro für ein Dokumentarfilmprojekt, das sich mit Menschenrechtsthematik beschäftigt. Die Preisträger/innen werden auf der Homepage und in einer Pressemitteilung bekannt gegeben. goEast supports young filmmakers and creatives from Central and Eastern Europe and connects them to like-minded peers from Germany. In this time of social distancing, closed cinemas and bans on gatherings, goEast has decided to carry out the East-West Talent Lab virtually. A development program has been conceived for the approximately thirty participants that can be adapted and realised as an online format. The young talents hail from Albania, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Croatia, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Hungary, among other places. In the scope of numerous events, the lab participants have the opportunity to exchange ideas, know-how and experience while expanding their professional networks. They meet industry representatives and can present their project ideas and find partners for co-productions. In addition to a presentation on funding options for co-productions in Europe, the lab also features a case study on a current competition entry from several countries. In the scope of a master class, Czech actor, director and producer Václav Marhoul will speak about his artistic path and his most recent work THE PAINTED BIRD. This year there will be a particular focus on the ethics of dealing with actors as well as on the production of series. In addition to a pitching workshop and mentoring in project development, goEast also offers participants the chance to schedule one-on-one meetings with a project director from Eurimages and editors from 3sat and ARTE. Project Market Pitch In front of a live audience, the participants of the East- West Talent Lab present their selected project ideas from the areas of short and experimental film, video art and short and feature length documentary film to a threemember expert jury. The young talents come from Central and Eastern Europe as well as Germany. Each pitch takes a maximum of five minutes and is immediately followed by feedback from the expert jury, which consists this year of editor Jutta Krug (WDR/ARTE), producer and author Ira Tondowski and fiction-feature producer Kirill Krasovski. The best pitch wins the goEast Development Award, initiated in 2014 and featuring prize money in the amount of 3,500 euros. The jury also awards the Renovabis Research Grant (also endowed with 3,500 euros) for a documentary film project treating human rights issues.
