A WALL IS A SCREEN Häuserwände werden zu Leinwänden bei „A Wall is a Screen“. Die filmische Stadterkundung mit der Hamburger Künstler/innengruppe belebt das abendliche Wiesbaden und beleuchtet dessen unbekanntere Ecken. Gemeinsam mit dem Publikum und mobiler Projektionstechnik wandert „A Wall is a Screen“ zu Fuß durch den Wohnbezirk Klarenthal und zeigt osteuropäische Kurzfilme an bisher wenig bekannten Orten. Im Bezirk leben bereits viele Wiesbadener/innen mit osteuropäischen Wurzeln, während des Stadtspaziergangs wird ihre Kultur sichtbar gemacht. Durch die gemeinsame Intervention wird der öffentliche Raum umdefiniert, Architektur wird zur Leinwand und Film und Ort werden in einen neuen Kontext gesetzt. „A Wall is a Screen“ begeistert das Publikum jedes Mal aufs Neue, die visuelle Stadterkundung ist einmalig, einzigartig und diesmal speziell auf Wiesbaden-Klarenthal und goEast zugeschnitten. “A Wall is a Screen” turns the facades of buildings and houses into surfaces for the projection of moving pictures. The cinematic urban exploration staged by the Hamburg-based artists collective aims to animate the Wiesbaden evening and shine a light on the city’s lesser-known corners. Together with the audience and armed with modern mobile projection equipment, “A Wall is a Screen” will stroll through the residential district of Klarenthal and show Eastern European short films at places that have remained largely neglected to date. The neighbourhood is already home to many Wiesbadeners with Eastern European roots – their culture will also be made visible in the scope of this unique outing. The shared intervention seeks to redefine public space, transforming architecture into open-air “big screens”, while placing both film and location in a new context. “A Wall is a Screen” always manages to delight audiences anew: this year’s visual exploration of the city is one-of-a-kind, unique – and specially conceived this time for Wiesbaden-Klarenthal and goEast. 72
AUSSTELLUNG/ EXHIBITION MEMES AUS SLAWISTAN/ MEMES FROM SLAVISTAN Where are we? In Eastern Europe Memes sind die allgegenwärtigste Form der Populärkultur, die den sozialen Medien zu eigen ist. Als Kombination aus recycelten Bildern und Text sind sie meist als Witze oder Kommentare zu allem gedacht, was in der Welt passiert. Mit der Ausstellung slawischer Memes, die von den Filmjournalisten und Meme-Connaisseurs Vassilis Economou und Vladan Petković kuratiert wird, wollen wir das Verständnis des slawischen (und osteuropäischen) Geistes und seiner Kultur in der westlichen Wahrnehmung erweitern. In Kategorien, die von Essen, Kultur und Geschichte bis hin zu Mode, Musik und Wissenschaft reichen, wurden die Memes ausgewählt und auf im Westen verständliche Weise präsentiert. So werden Aspekte des Lebens, der Tradition und der Denkweise von Slaw/innen auf einer Metaebene zugänglich gemacht. Mit dieser Ausstellung hoffen wir, die kulturelle Verbindung zwischen den Slaw/ innen (und Ehren-Slaw/innen) und dem Westen, die goEast traditionell durch sein Programm erforscht, zu ergänzen und zu erweitern. Through a combination of recycled images and text, they are most often intended as jokes or comments on literally everything happening in the world. With the exhibition of Slavic Memes, curated by film journalists and meme connoisseurs Vassilis Economou and Vladan Petković, we aim to expand the understanding of the Slavic (and Eastern European) spirit and culture in the Western perception. With categories ranging from food, culture and history to fashion, music and science, the memes will be selected and presented in a way accessible for Western consumers, who will be able to understand these aspects of the life, tradition and mindset of Slavs on a different, meta-level. With this exhibition, we are hoping to complement and expand the cultural connection between Slavs (and honorary-Slavs) and the West that goEast traditionally explores through its programme.
