Das 1994 eingerichtete Dovzhenko Centre ist das größte<br />
staatliche Filmarchiv in Ukraine, mit mehr als 6.000<br />
nationalen und internationalen Titeln im Bestand. Es<br />
ist die Nachfolgeinstitution des 1948 gegründeten<br />
Dovzhenko Filmstudios. Als dynamische Kulturinstitution<br />
vereint es unter seinem Dach neben dem Filmarchiv auch<br />
das einzige ukrainische Filmlabor, ein Filmmuseum,<br />
ein Dokumentenarchiv, eine Medienbibliothek und<br />
ein eigenes Verlagshaus. Die Mission des Dovzhenko<br />
Centre ist es, neue Perspektiven auf die konventionelle<br />
Filmgeschichte zu entwickeln und die Transformation<br />
des nationalen Gedächtnisses sowie die Reflektion<br />
künstlerischer und historischer Prozesse durch die<br />
Filmkunst zu studieren.<br />
Established in 1994, the Dovzhenko Centre is the<br />
largest state-owned film archive in Ukraine, with<br />
more than 6.000 national and international titles in its<br />
collection. The centre is the successor institution of<br />
Dovzhenko Film Studio, founded in 1948. As a dynamic<br />
cultural institution, it hosts, in addition to the film<br />
archive, Ukraine’s sole film laboratory, a film museum,<br />
a documentation archive, a media library and its own<br />
publishing company. The mission of the Dovzhenko<br />
Centre is to develop new perspectives of the conventional<br />
film history and to study the transformation of national<br />
memory and the reflection of artistic and historical<br />
processes through cinema.<br />

Zwei Meerschweinchen reisen mit ihrem Besitzer<br />
im Personenwaggon eines Zuges. Den anderen<br />
Fahrgästen gefällt das gar nicht, beim nächsten<br />
Halt sollen sie verlagert werden. Doch in dem chaotischen<br />
Bahnhof gerät die Situation völlig außer<br />
Kontrolle. 2015 wurde der ukrainische Stummfilm<br />
PIGS WILL BE PIGS zufällig im Bestand des Bundesarchivs<br />
entdeckt und 2016 dem Dovzhenko Centre<br />
übergeben. Das im Odessa Filmstudio entstandene<br />
Langfilmdebüt von Khanan Shmain entlarvt<br />
über satirisch-absurde Inhalte die Schwächen<br />
der sowjetischen Bürokratie. Das Werk wird mit<br />
einem Soundtrack des Künstlers Albert Tsukrenko<br />

in a passenger coach. The other travellers are less<br />
than amused by their furry seatmates, and pets<br />
and master are forced to seek other quarters at<br />
the next stop. Alas, the situation goes completely<br />
off the rails in the chaotic station. In 2015, the<br />
Ukrainian silent film PIGS WILL BE PIGS was discovered<br />
by accident in the inventory of the German<br />
Federal Archive and handed over to the Dovzhenko<br />
Centre in 2016. Khanan Shmain’s feature-film<br />
debut, created at Odessa Film Studios, employs<br />
satirical and absurd scenes and plotlines to expose<br />
the weaknesses of Soviet bureaucracy. The film<br />
will be accompanied by a special soundtrack from<br />
artist Albert Tsukrenko.<br />
