(ds) The year is 1942 – the young Belgian jew Gilles pretends to be Persian, thus narrowly escaping execution at the hands of the SS. In a concentration camp it becomes clear why he was spared: Officer Koch wishes to learn Farsi, in order to move to Teheran and open a restaurant after the war. That’s where Gilles comes in. The imposter proceeds to make up his very own version of Farsi – a deadly serious game that is constantly in danger of discovery. ARCHIV– PRÄSENTATION / ARCHIVE PRESENTATION DOVZHENKO CENTRE Das 1994 eingerichtete Dovzhenko Centre ist das größte staatliche Filmarchiv in Ukraine, mit mehr als 6.000 nationalen und internationalen Titeln im Bestand. Es ist die Nachfolgeinstitution des 1948 gegründeten Dovzhenko Filmstudios. Als dynamische Kulturinstitution vereint es unter seinem Dach neben dem Filmarchiv auch das einzige ukrainische Filmlabor, ein Filmmuseum, ein Dokumentenarchiv, eine Medienbibliothek und ein eigenes Verlagshaus. Die Mission des Dovzhenko Centre ist es, neue Perspektiven auf die konventionelle Filmgeschichte zu entwickeln und die Transformation des nationalen Gedächtnisses sowie die Reflektion künstlerischer und historischer Prozesse durch die Filmkunst zu studieren. Established in 1994, the Dovzhenko Centre is the largest state-owned film archive in Ukraine, with more than 6.000 national and international titles in its collection. The centre is the successor institution of Dovzhenko Film Studio, founded in 1948. As a dynamic cultural institution, it hosts, in addition to the film archive, Ukraine’s sole film laboratory, a film museum, a documentation archive, a media library and its own publishing company. The mission of the Dovzhenko Centre is to develop new perspectives of the conventional film history and to study the transformation of national memory and the reflection of artistic and historical processes through cinema. Doch in dem chaotischen Bahnhof gerät die Situation völlig außer Kontrolle. 2015 wurde der ukrainische Stummfilm PIGS WILL BE PIGS zufällig im Bestand des Bundesarchivs entdeckt und 2016 dem Dovzhenko Centre übergeben. Das im Odessa Filmstudio entstandene Langfilmdebüt von Khanan Shmain entlarvt über satirisch-absurde Inhalte die Schwächen der sowjetischen Bürokratie. Khanan Shmain’s feature-film debut, created at Odessa Film Studios, employs satirical and absurd scenes and plotlines to expose the weaknesses of Soviet bureaucracy.
