Die junge Delia Fratila reist mit ihren Eltern nach
Bukarest, um dort ein Auto in Empfang zu nehmen,
das sie gewonnen hat. Doch dort angekommen
zeigt sich, dass ihr Vorhaben schwieriger wird
als gedacht. Der Gewinn weckt Begehrlichkeiten:
Der Sponsor des Preisausschreibens malträtiert
Delia beim Dreh eines Werbespots und die Eltern
drängen darauf, das Auto zu verkaufen. Unausweichlich
kommt es zum Konflikt und Delias Eltern
wollen sie gar enterben. Ausgesprochen humorvoll
karikiert Radu Jude den Kapitalismus, entblößt
dessen vollkommene Absurdität und zeigt auf, wie
die Gier nach Geld nicht einmal vor der Familie

Young Delia Fratila travels to Bucharest with her
parents to take possession of a car that she has
won. Alas, upon arrival, it becomes apparent that
this retrieval mission will be more difficult than
she suspected. Her trophy brings out cravings in
others. The prize sponsor mistreats Delia during a
shoot for a commercial and her parents pressure
her to sell the vehicle. Conflict is inevitable, and
soon Delia’s parents are even threatening to
disown her. With a healthy dose of humour, Radu
Jude caricatures capitalism, revealing its absolute
absurdity and pointing out that the hunger for
money is also perfectly capable of devouring the
family unit.

Marius ist Ende dreißig und geschieden. Der
einzige Lichtblick ist seine Tochter Sofia, die bei
seiner Ex-Frau Otilia und ihrem neuen Mann
lebt. Marius macht sich auf den Weg, um mit Sofia
einen Geburtstagsausflug ans Meer zu machen.
Doch so leicht wird ihm das nicht gemacht. Aus
einer Unstimmigkeit entwickelt sich ein Familienkonflikt,
der mehr und mehr ausufert, bis es kein
Zurück mehr gibt. Einfühlsam entwirft Radu Jude
die eskalierenden Konfliktlinien innerhalb einer
Familie: enttäuschte Befindlichkeiten, verletzte
Gefühle und missverstandene Zuneigungen. (ds)
Marius is a divorcee in his late-thirties. The only
ray of light in his life is his daughter Sofia, who
lives with his ex-wife Otilia and her new husband.
Marius sets out to make a birthday trip to the
seaside with Sofia, but his path soon proves beset
with obstacles. A disagreement grows into a family
conflict, one that snowballs steadily, until there
is no turning back. With great sensitivity, Radu
Jude traces the escalating lines of conflict within a
family, a tangle of disappointed expectations, hurt
feelings and misunderstood affections.
