besondere Veranstaltungen
kanalisiert.

Nach einem erfolgreichen
Start in der zurückliegenden
Festivalausgabe geht 2020 das
Paneuropäische Picknick bei
goEast in die zweite Runde. Mit
der umfangreichen Veranstaltungsreihe
tritt das Festival der
Bevölkerung des Rhein-Main-Gebietes
insbesondere an Orten des
öffentlichen Lebens entgegen.
Namensgeber und spiritueller
Pate des Programms ist das
Paneuropäische Picknick in
Sopron, das 1989 als Kunstaktion
den Eisernen Vorhang für einige
hundert DDR-Bürger anhob und
damit ein historischer Zwischenschritt
für das Zusammenwachsen
Europas wurde.
goEast steht für Verständnis
und für die Faszination für den
Lebensstil und die Kunst unserer
östlichen Nachbarn. Dieser
kulturelle Aspekt ist dieser Tage
auch ein explizites Politikum.
Denn nationalistische Tendenzen
versuchen, das europäische
Gemeinschaftsgefühl auf dem
Kontinent zu untergraben.
Das Paneuropäische Picknick
führt zusammen, sei es im
Sprachkurs, in Ausstellungen,
beim Filmspaziergang des
Kunstkollektivs „A Wall is a
Screen“ in Wiesbaden-Klarenthal
oder beim gemeinsamen
Picknick. Das große Potential
Dass wir in diesem Rahmen
auch im zweiten Jahr einen
Kurzfilmpreis stiften können,
freut uns ungemein. Denn so
bietet goEast nicht nur einer
spannenden filmischen Gattung
Raum, sondern liefert einen
zusätzlichen Beitrag in seinen
Anstrengungen, gerade junge
Filmschaffende der Region zu
fördern und zu vernetzen. In
Zusammenarbeit mit regionalen
Programmkinos geht das
Kurzfilmprogramm nach dem
Festival auf Tour durch das
Rhein-Main-Gebiet.
Als langjähriger Unterstützer
des Festivals freut sich der
Kulturfonds auf die 20. Ausgabe
von goEast und wünscht dem
Publikum sowie dem Team ein
spannendes und erfolgreiches
Jubiläum.

After a successful launch during
last year’s festival, the Pan-
European Picnic returns in 2020
for its second edition at goEast.
With this extensive series of
events, the festival reaches
out to the inhabitants of the
Rhine-Main region, especially
in places associated with public
life. The namesake and “patron
saint” of the programme is the
Pan-European Picnic held in
Sopron, an artistic intervention
in 1989 that raised the Iron
Curtain for several hundred East
German citizens, thus marking
a historical step on the path to
creating a unified Europe.

goEast stands for understanding
and for a fascination with the
lifestyle and the art of our
neighbours to the East. These
days, this cultural aspect is also
an explicit political stance, as
nationalist currents attempt
to undermine the sense of
European solidarity across the
continent.
The Pan-European Picnic brings
people together, whether in a
language course, in exhibitions,
for the film walk of the artist
collective “A Wall is a Screen”
in Wiesbaden-Klarenthal or
for the communal picnic. In so
doing, the festival manages to
consciously channel the great
potential of Eastern European
lifestyle culture in the Rhine-
Main region into extra special
events.
We are incredibly happy to have
the opportunity to sponsor a
short film award once more
in this second year. goEast not
only provides a platform for an
exciting cinematic format here
– the competition also represents
an additional contribution to its
efforts to foster and connect the
region’s young filmmakers in
particular. In co-operation with
regional independent cinemas,
the short film programme will
go on a tour of the Rhine-Main
region following the festival’s
conclusion.
As a long-time supporter of the
festival, Kulturfonds is looking
forward to the 20th edition of
goEast and wishes the audience
and the team an exciting and
successful jubilee year.
