It’s time for the sequel. DCeased: Dead Planet is set five years after

the cataclysmic events of the original series, with Damian Wayne,

Jonathan Kent, and Cassie Sandsmark—now firmly established as

Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman—leave Earth-2 to answer a

distress call from the dead planet they left behind—and what they return

to is sure to be truly distressing.

DCeased writer Tom Taylor talked about what readers can expect from

the sequel as he reteams with artist Trevor Hairsine, forms a new

Justice League, and plots “extreme violence and shocking deaths” on

the way.

What are you most excited for people to see with DCeased: Dead Planet?

What will surprise people who loved the original?

I always had a lot more DCeased planned in my head, and scrawled on

notepads and whiteboards, not to mention rambling late-night emails to

[editor] Ben Abernathy. And I’m just so excited to continue this story. We

set up so many things, and now we get to pay it all off. The heroes we

saved and brought to a new Earth will return. Harley Quinn and Poison

Ivy are still there, along with any survivors from Unkillables. And then

we have the continuing story of Constantine, Zatanna, Doctor Fate, and

other magic users.

I can’t thank readers and retailers enough for getting behind DCeased,

and I urge everyone not to miss out on the sequel. Dead Planet is even

bigger than the first. We have so many massive moments coming. We

have moments of pure joy and heroism mixed with extreme violence and

shocking deaths. You know, all that fun stuff.

time has passed since then, and what’s left of the world when the story

picks up?

Five years have passed since the arks left Earth. The anti-living

Superman is up there slowly eating our sun, and it’s gotten a little

colder. The world is completely ruled by death, but there’s still a small

resistance force of survivors, stubbornly refusing to die and still out

there looking for pockets of life. There is also another group, but we…

shouldn’t talk about them yet.

Trevor Hairsine is on board for the sequel—what’s it like having

him back?

Honestly, Trev and I, along with Ben Abernathy, colorist Rain Beredo and

letterer Saida Temofonte, were already planning to do the sequel before

we’d even finished up on the first DCeased, so for us, it’s like we never

stopped. But Trev is bringing his A game to Dead Planet. The pages he’s

been sending in are lighting a fire under me. His Constantine is perfect,

and his Swamp Thing is…oh no, I’ve said too much!

What can you share at this point about the aged-up versions of Damian

Wayne, Jon Kent, and Cassie Sandsmark starring in this series? How

prepared are they for what awaits in the titular dead planet?

There’s no way they can be prepared for what they’re about to face. But

Damian, Jon, and Cassie are Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.

They are the Trinity. Without wanting to telegraph it, we were always

setting up a new Justice League in DCeased. A new Batman, Superman,

and Wonder Woman joined by Dinah as Green Canary, Wally as the new

Flash, Mera replacing Aquaman, and adding Thunder and Lightning.

This is a new Justice League returning to a doomed Earth to answer a

distress signal. They’re going up against death, but don’t bet against

them. Just be prepared for some pain.
