Now that we have all these
brooches, what are we going to do
with them? Put them everywhere!
Shoulders, lapels, back of dress,
front of dress, on the hip, at the
side waist, center front in yoke,
on a hat, on a bag... just put them
on, one at time or “bunch them
up”. They make you smile. Amuse
yourself. Plus, they are practical. A
lovely brooch holds your scarf in
place in the Fall winds (I am not ready to say wint.. yet.)

Are Your Ears Ringing?
ALL women have heard the question, “Are you ready
yet?!” They just don’t realize that you are in the midst of
a fashion crisis. What earrings work with this outfit? We
have all been there! To really stir it up, we now must consider the
brooch that we have chosen to complete the new Fall look. Where
to begin? I started by referencing what women wore in the
40. I turned to my 20th Century Fashion encyclopedia by John
Peacock. Did the women match their earrings to the brooch or
just complement it in a style that suits them personally?
Both camps have strong support. So let’s update the look for
today’s earlobes. If you are wearing more than four earrings at
a time, you might want to give in to purchasing a dozen differently
colored crystal studs. Vary the colors to create the finished
appearance. Trade Winds, on Lafayette, carry small crystal
flowers. Victorious, in Congress Hall, has small crystal drops.
Give the multi-hoop look a rest!
The chandelier earring (current rage) is a little tricky to combine
with the brooch, but it can be done. This is not a last-minute
decision, though. Hair, neckline and brooch placement require a
practice run. Remember, he is waiting for dinner!
To simplify your life, pack all your brooches into a jewelry
pouch and take them shopping. Come home with at least two
pair of earrings that work, one for dress and one for jeans.
Consider the new teardrop shape! Works well with most jawlines
and doesn’t get tangled in
your hair. The Golden Gull,
on the mall, has an endless
selection. For you clip wearers,
do not fear. You are sitting in
the prime seat. Brooches were
often designed with a matching
earring, and oh, the fabulous
gem stone drops with a
crystal tear are out there waiting
for you. I already bought
mine,s o I don’t mind telling
you that there are several more
pairs in W.S. Antiques.

The first annual Cape May Surrey Relay race, a gruelling four-mile trek around town, was held last Friday, between Exit Zero and CapeMay.com.
Organizer was Bernie Haas (pictured right), owner of CapeMay.com. His team consisted of Sue Tischler, Chris Goodroe and Stephanie Madsen...
The Exit Zero team consisted of Stefanie Godfrey, Jack Wright and Maciej Nabrdalik, surely a much superior combination of muscle and
brainpower. However, the Exit Zero team were landed with a much heavier, six-seater Surrey by the guys at Cape Island Bike Rentals...
So despite the Exit Zero team raising their arms in triumph as they headed down Howard Street for the finish at the Chalfonte, they were soundly
beaten by the website geeks, riding a much lighter, faster four-seater model. By the way, the photo on the right shows Sue Tischler, who is clearly nuts.
