BY NOW, you have seen fashion magazine covers tempting<br />
you with information on the new Fall look. Yes, the backlash<br />
against the thong underwear poptart look has finally<br />
occurred (sorry, guys). Moving ever forward, the new Fall look<br />
reminds us to dress like a lady and act like one. Are we ready? I<br />
am the first to admit that thinking about heels on shoes after a<br />
glorious summer in flip-flops (in every color under the sun) is a<br />
tough proposition.<br />
So... we are going to begin with brooches instead! I am<br />
thrilled about the return of the brooch – it’s like a breath of fresh<br />
air. It’s there for everyone. The retro girls have always collected<br />
them. Look to them for the really fabulous ones from the Forties,<br />
Fifties and Sixties. But it is not too late to get started. I recently<br />
saw some great ones in W.S. Antiques on Perry Street. Look<br />
for colored stones with prong settings.<br />
Large rhinestone and crystal pins are not to be overlooked,<br />
either. The tailored dresser has a great assortment of pins in<br />
natural stone. Slices of Agate, Tigers Eye, Rose Quartz to name<br />
a few, have been showing up at all the art and craft fairs around<br />
town this summer. Locally, check Tuesdays at the Farmers<br />
Market, in West Cape May.<br />
The Whale’s Tale, on Washington Mall, has a collection<br />
of nature-inspired pins in enamel on sterling silver. For you<br />
“diamond-only” girls, check Artisan’s Alcove, on Lafayette,<br />
and MaryAnn’s, on the mall. The junior market is going to<br />
enjoy this trend just as much, especially since it’s at a very affordable<br />
level. Pins are popping up everywhere – try Pearls, on<br />
